I did a cleanup, and noticed that much of the content is taken from http://doc.govt.nz/Explore/002~Tracks-and-Walks/Great-Walks/Kepler-Track/index.asp so I replaced the map reference with this reference. There may be an issue with the Crown copyright - it may be ok for Wikipedia to use the content without permission, but for any commercial use (e.g. licensing of Wikipedia), the licensee would have to license the content from the DOC.

I did email DOC before posting that content, i think its public domain. Thorney

Also, I recommend that further info on accomodation, shops, tramping info go into WikiTravel instead of this article. The reason I mention that is because it appeared from the wikilink for equipment hire (that I converted back to a regular word) that someone was trying to create a link to a tramping store. The track description starts and ends at Te Anau, but my book and the DOC site both start from the control gates, so I propose changing the description to match. RosinDebow 04:42, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Walk length[edit]

Before 2002 67 km was given for the length of the walk in a number of publications including the DOC walk pamphlet, the 5th edition of DuFresne's Tramping in New Zealand (i.e. the Lonely Planet book) and older editions of the Kepler Track Parkmap. All current editions of these publications list the walk as 60 or 60.1 km so I believe that is the correct figure. I also believe the distances between the hits in the new DOC 2006/2007 pamphlet and 2003 Kepler Track Parkmap to be the correct distances to use. These are very close to the distances published in the Kiwi Foothpaths book. -- Patleahy 23:08, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

it is quite frustrating that kiwis cannot measure their own track, esp a famous (and expensive) one like kepler. how can 7 kms disappear "just like that", i mean, try walking 7 kms with a heavy backpack... i am quite convinced it is more than 70 with the lake walk from/to the DOC long stay carpark. my back still hurts... --Minusf (talk) 13:41, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
