Notability[edit]

What is the problem with the article? I have just started it and yes it may be incomplete, but feel free to fix or add to it. Emainiac 07:11, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think the prime problem with the article is the fact that this is a non-notable school. The inclusion of these in Wikipedia is, as I understand it, currently under some debate. I personally take the view that they do not deserve inclusion in much the same way that someone's local business does not deserve inclusion. A secondary problem with this article would be its obvious POV bias. To call a setting "relaxed" does not convey the neutrality expected of an encyclopedic article. Allright, enough ego petting. Yes, the newspaper is cool, but you have to admit that cutting off the entire end of an article is an error.

POV Dispute[edit]

I'm not sure what's going on with the POV of the article. We obviously have some vandalism and bias issues in the Newspaper section due to the defensiveness of those directly involved with the creation of the paper.

I would like some help controlling the vandalism against this article, considering it's an article about a high school and "holds a special place in the hearts of many" and this can bring up disputed and territory wars. I was wondering if we could close this article to only be editable by registered users or something like that. I'm gonna go fix some issues with the article right now, and we'll see if that resolves any POV issues. Emainiac 22:56, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unnecessary non-encylcopedic additions[edit]

Moreover the entire talk of architechture down to its comparison to a small hell is both unfounded and unneccesary. Yes you may go to this school, but that does not give you an excuse to place uncited and poorly written information on here.

This is an FYI because there may be some drive-by editing to remove their redlinked names. Motto[edit]

I'm having a hard time believing that a school opened in 1996 in the suburbs of politically correct/sensitive Seattle would have a motto that includes "Falcon 'til I die." The motto was first added by an IP in this revision dated 23 July 2007. I can find no mention of the motto on the school website, but to be fair, I'm sure you couldn't find my own high school's motto on the internet. If this in fact is the motto, then great, I'll move on. Can someone figure out if the motto on the article truly is or is not the school's motto? KuyaBriBri^Talk 22:36, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Significance of Kent lake HS[edit]

I noticed that on the description of the school that it they welcomed their first student body in grades 10-12. Actually, it was only 10 & 11 grades, there were no seniors the first year. This was due to the fact that just 3 years before the area opened Cedar Heights Jr. High and the students that were moved from their jr. highs in 9th grade to attend Cedar Heights (due to the boundary changes) would have been the majority of those that would have been moved to Kentlake for their senior year, thus it was decided to open the school with only sophomores and juniors and allow the seniors of 1998 to graduate at their original high schools. I am not an expert on high schools, but I have not heard about that happening before.

Also Kentlake was centered in the debate over the city of Covington. Covington became a city in 1998, incorporating itself into King County, but was still considered an off chute of Kent. During the process of naming the school, there was a major debate whether to include "Kent" in the name since it is not located in Kent, but in Covington (though technically, I believe it has a Black Diamond address). The name of the high school was another way of Covington showing their independence and separation from Kent. Many Covington area residents wanted the school to be named Covington-Sawyer High School (after Lake Sawyer, the closest lake to the school). However, it was decided that because the school was a part of the Kent School district it would be called "Kent" with a "nature" word attached like the rest of the high schools in the district.

I don't have any verifiable source of this info other than being an member of the graduating class of 1999 from Kentlake...pretty sure there were no seniors though, I would have noticed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kitkatters (talk • contribs) 08:08, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sex controversy[edit]

I cut down the information about the sexual misconduct incident to a single short paragraph. Much of it was just a lot of unencyclopedic detail, and some details, like the part about breaking up with the girlfriend/being suicidal and the jacuzzi, weren't even mentioned in either source given.
