History and landmarks to add[edit]

I don't have enough information on these things yet, but they are worthy additions in the future:

  • Kelson's first hairdresser was John Benvenuti, who was operating by 1981 (and probably originated that year too).[1] There is currently a hairdresser on Major Drive called Hummingbird Organic Hair Design, the building of which was previously occupied by Kelson Hair Design. It is unclear if this building extends back to that first hairdresser, or if it is a different building.
  • It appears there was a health clinic called Kelson Health Clinic or the Community Health Centre, and it had something to do with a Women's Health Collective. There is an article from 1988 discussing how it was not fully used [2]. I don't think it exists anymore. Not actually clear if it was a separate building or part of the Kelson Community Centre.
  • Kelson Baptist Fellowship appeared to be operating in 1988, probably in the Kelson Community Centre instead of a building, though that's unclear. At the time, the pastor was Bernie Smith, who was also the Community Centre co-ordinator. I'm not sure if it is still running. [3]
  • Kelso Grove Sports Ground was considered under-utilized and began being replaced with residential housing in 2011.[4]
  • There is currently a Four Square next to the hairdresser on Major Drive. Not sure about its history.
  • Glenview Country Gardens is a wedding venue on Drummond Cres; not sure about its history [5]
  • Kitten Inn is a cat sanctuary on Major Drive, operating as a registered not for profit charitable trust. I'm not sure about its history but it has 20,000 likes on Facebook, which is considerable. There are several recent news articles dedicated to it.

If anyone has more referenced information on these, that would be great. --Mattjadencarroll (talk) 01:28, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • There was definitely a health clinic, on the corner of Major Drive and Kelso Grove. It was not there for long.
  • The four square has been around for a very long time, at least the mid eighties I believe.
  • I am not sure when Glenview came about, but before that, the location was a Bed and Breakfast. Before that, it was a lifestyle block, which was owned by my family. The house was built partly by my father, which might be still there. It was built from 1997 I believe it was, and sold in 2005.
  • Kitten Inn would have been established sometime between 2005 and 2015. KiwiMatt43 (talk) 09:41, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
