Death[edit]

Mencken's account of Laurell's death does not agree with that published in the New York Times. He wrote that “Kay disappeared from New York after the war, and I heard presently that she was living in England. Then came news that she had fallen virtuously in love with a young and penniless Englishman, then that she had married him, and a little while later that she died in childbirth. It seemed a grotesque ending for such a woman.” H.L. Mencken, My Life as Author and Editor (New York: Knopf, 1993) p.84 Boytinck (talk) 22:29, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting! However it sounds like Mencken is repeating 2nd hand stories or rumors about her, rather than anything he had verified. I'd go with the NYT version of her death unless there's additional reason not to. -- Infrogmation (talk) 22:35, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've changed the content to reflect the fact that Laurell did indeed die during childbirth. I don't know why The New York Times and other publications said she died of pneumonia and was penniless, but the truth was reported about three years after her death. There was also a well publicized to-do about her estate since she left everything to her lover because she was unaware that she could leave anything to her child since he was born out of wedlock. Pretty interesting stuff. I couldn't find any more information about her son so I have no idea what became of him or the father. I'm sure someone will complain about that but it seems like they all just fell off the face of the earth. Or just lived normal lives, whatever. I also wouldn't call her ending particularly "grotesque". It seems like Mencken didn't particularly care for Laurell. Pinkadelica 05:07, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cause of death in indfobox.[edit]

Per Template:Infobox person/doc the cause_of_death field "should only be included when the cause of death has significance for the subject's notability". Please demonstrate that her cause of death contributes to her notability before restoring it. Meters (talk) 00:25, 11 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
