Karthikai Deepam and Karthigai Deepam are one and the same, hence both can be merged under 'Karthikai Deepam' which is closer to the correct word.

Karthigai Deepam at Trincomalee[edit]

The two sources added about an equivalent celebration of "Karthigai Deepam" in the Trincomalee temple in Sri Lanka, in fact refer only to the Tiruvannamalai temple. The Hindu article too, a semi-protected newspaper article, only talks about Tiruvannamalai and does not mention Trincomalee at all. While the first source is currently broken, but with a title clearly mentioning only Tiruvannamalai and the rites done in this temple.

After further research, it does not appear that the Trincomalee temple celebrates this festival in a peculiar way (compared to other temples in Sri Lanka like the Nallur Kandaswamy or even the Dehiwala Vishnu temple). I mean in a way that makes the Karthigai Deepam of the Trincomalee temple similar to the Karthigai Deepam of the Thiruvannamalai temple (the Maha deepam in particular; which seems to me non-existent in Koneswaram, or in any case incomparable - especially if it is done in the same way as in other major Sri Lankan temples, such as the Kandaswamy temple in Jaffna). Most of the references to this subject online are vague and do not confirm the information with certainty.
