Box

Former members

Lists are included for most band articles, so you don't have to search through the article for them. The list will have the members, what they played, and their years in the band. Tim Long 20:43, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

They should be included in the infobox but there's no prerequisite about band pages having a separate members section that I'm aware of. I think it's up to the user's choice. 86.164.5.243 (talk) 19:41, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

The Best Of Kansas

I was always impressed by the booklet that came with 'The Best Of Kansas'. So it was great to see that most of the things on the booklet were discovered.

But there's one thing missing: Audio-visions certainly HAS a part on the booklet, although it's hard to find. On the back side you see, right under, a metal hand holding the curtain. That metal hand certainly looks a lot like the hands on audio-visions. I was so free to add this information to your the page. If you think I'm not correct, just remove it.

Kansas - Device Voice Drum

Looks like vandalism/experimentation to me. I have removed the section. Device,_Voice,_Drum has its own article anyway. The information that was here under this section is about a totally unrelated Animusic production. Carboncopy 21:00, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Follow-up: I tracked down the Animusic / Device,_Voice,_Drum connection; seems Animusic did some animations for the album. I was not aware of this. Device - Voice - Drum is legit--it's the title of a live album Kansas recorded following the studio album "Somewhere to Elsewhere."

Detail

I'm disappointed that this article is bereft of detail compared to articles on many other rock bands. Compare the articles on Rush (band) and Van Halen, for example, which are longer and more detailed. Vinyl Confessions

The following paragraph says this about Vinyl Confessions: "Kansas' first album with Elefante, Vinyl Confessions, released in June 1982, was their most successful studio release since Point of Know Return. The record renewed interest in the group and generated the band's first Top 20 hit in several years, "Play the Game Tonight." The album's overtly Christian lyrics attracted an entirely new audience. Still, sales of the album fell short of gold status, and the album has yet to be certified gold."

It appears that the sole criteria for measuring the success of Vinyl Confessions is that "Play the Game Tonight" was a Top 20 single. Monolith, the studio successor to Point of Know Return, peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart and was initially certified gold and later platinum. It also boasted a Top 30 single in "People of the South Wind." Further, Audio-Visions, the predecessor to Vinyl Confessions, peaked at number 26 and was certified gold. It also had a Top 40 single in "Hold On." History

In the section "1970–128432173: Early years" the first two words (i.e., the name of Kansas' former bass player Dave Hope is incorrectly represented as "Dave Pope" and links to an article on Dave Pope - a baseball player. I am new to Wikipedia and do not know how to correct the entry and link. I went into the "Edit" tab and in the code I see there for this section of the page, it appears correctly as "Dave Hope" so I cannot find the source of the problem to fix it.... can any not-so-newbie help out? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChuckHos (talk • contribs) 05:20, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

I just checked the article history, and "Pope" did not appear anywhere in the article at the time you posted the above. Someone did vandalize the article to say "Dave Pope" at one point, but it was immediately reverted by a bot, and this was many hours before your above post. Not known?

The following sentence from the "Creative Tensions" section is unnecessarily baffling: "In early 1982, Walsh was replaced by vocalist/keyboardist John Elefante,[1] who was also a Christian (though not known at the time)." Not known by whom? The music press? The other members of Kansas? Christian media groups? Elefante himself?

If anyone knows how to correctly clarify (and ideally, provide a source for) that parenthetical phrase, please do so. Otherwise, I don't know if there's anything to be done but remove it from the article.--Martin IIIa (talk) 19:07, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Somehow I missed the original post when it was first written. The answer to the question is: those who hired him (and were Christians). I don't remember where I had read that, so after searching (and searching) I finally found a source that's even better than what I saw before. In this interview with the Elefante brothers, John talks about it -- in the middle of the page, after the question: "John, your joining Kansas was really a kind of miracle. Tell us about that." It really is pretty amazing.

Members section

Given the rather extensive nature of the current members section on this page, would moving the lists of members and lineups table to a separate page be desirable, as in what we already have in a few cases: List of musicians in the band Boston, List of Genesis band members, etc? I'm not sure. I personnally view the "Lineups" section as trivial overkill and see the "Current" and "Former" bandmembers as the only info that's really needed.
