Requesting Edits to Academic Section[edit]

Please change Program of Emphasis to say "Programs of Emphasis" for the sub-section under Academics and change the blurb to say the following:

Juniata College features "Programs of Emphasis" (POEs) rather than traditional academic majors. Students can choose a designated POE or create their own with the approval of two faculty advisors. Students may also have secondary emphases, similar to the traditional academic minor. Nearly 45% of Juniata students design their own POE.

I appreciate that POEs aren't majors, but they are the closest equivalent that Junaita has. the WP:UNIGUIDE includes "Because Wikipedia is not a directory, do not attempt to list every major, degree, or program offered in this or any section." (this section refers to Academics). The current section on POEs should include references to either http://services.juniata.edu/registrar/forms/POETypes.html or http://www.juniata.edu/registrar/poes/index.php or both. A general count of the number of designated POEs may also be appropriate.
For Study abroad, oddly enough the Did You Know at http://legacy.juniata.edu/academics/studyabroad.html is probably about at the right level of boiled down information. While that shouldn't be directly copied, rewording and referencing to that page.
For the University rankings, I think we should go with something similar to the example on Florida Atlantic University or Texas Tech University (which is are WP:Featured Article (one of the best)). There is an infobox on ratings that both articles use and in general that is done in prose with more information on the ratings rather than a laundry list of books.Naraht (talk) 21:00, 2 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Great suggestions. I made some edits to the lead so that it more fully encompasses the article:

Juniata College is a private liberal arts college in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, United States. Founded in 1876 as a co-educational school, it was the first college started by the Church of the Brethren. The main campus spans 110 acres and is supplemented by a 315-acre Baker-Henry Nature Preserve and Baker Peace Chapel. In addition, a 365-acre Environmental Studies Field Station is located on nearby Raystown Lake.

Juniata College is primarily an undergraduate institution but offers graduate programs in accounting and nonprofit leadership. Today, Juniata has about 1,600 students from 42 states and territories and 45 countries.[4] Its current president is Dr. James A. Troha.

Juniata College features a “Program of Emphasis” (POE)[1] rather than the common Academic major. Students can choose from a designated POE, or they can individualize their POE within a certain course framework. Students may also have secondary emphases, similar to the traditional academic minor. The strong academic tradition of Juniata College is made apparent in the success of its students. The school touts an impressive graduation rate: 79% of all students entering Juniata graduate; of those, 96% do so within four years. Juniata also has a 95% acceptance rate to all postgraduate programs, including medical, podiatric, dental, occupational therapy, physical therapy, chiropractic, and law schools.

Since 2003, Juniata has produced eight Academic All-Americans, five American Physiological Society Undergraduate Research Fellows, 20 Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholars, 19 Fulbright Scholars, 14 Goldwater Fellows, one Pickering Fellow, eight St. Andrew's Society Scholars, and one Davies-Jackson Scholar. Juniata also perennially places at least one student as a Harvard Summer Research Scholar.

Create section on "Study abroad"

Students are encouraged to study abroad in order to gain knowledge and experience living and studying in another culture. Juniata offers 55 study abroad programs in 22 countries on 6 continents. Every POE has at least one study abroad program that can meet POE and other requirements. Additionally, financial aid and scholarships still apply while abroad. [3]

Apologies for the delayed review: the list of requested edits currently has a backlog of 180+ requests dating back to last September. The text of your proposed edit is rather promotional. The most obvious red flags are phrases that are frequently used in press releases, but are not appropriate for an encyclopedia. These promotional terms include phrases such as "strong academic tradition" and "touts an impressive graduation rate." The claims about the number of scholars/fellows and the paragraph on study abroad require a reference to an independent source, i.e. one that is not published by Juniata College. Improvement areas for the article.[edit]

(Not intended as a checklist for Shalenmae or ElKevbo, but if it works out that way... :) )

  • WP:UNIGUIDE needs to be consulted as a guide to the future of the article.
  • The article List of Juniata College people should be merged into this article. I only see a couple of people in that short article not in this one. Not sure if any of the other people in the original article (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_Juniata_College_people&oldid=47792624) now have either a higher level of notability and/or a wikipedia page , but that's something to check.
  • The Annual events section should be trimmed down some, it represents a very large section of the article and frankly some like the Family Weekend are not particularly unique to Juniata. At best the remainder of the article should be expanded so it is no longer as significant.
  • Nothing is referenced in the academics section, and the rankings should be referenced and/or greatly reduced. The areas of study graduation rates if appropriate to keep should be referenced in secondary sources rather than by those on the university website.
  • In general we need to push for Secondary Sources like magazines,books and college guides.

Athletics mascot change[edit]

As the Athletics section refers to the school's mascot changing from "Indians" to "Eagles", is there any information we can add as to when this change took place? 97.102.30.205 (talk) 22:41, 2 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
