3:4 and 2:4 time[edit]

I don't think it's right to talk about 3:4 and 2:4 time in Juke. The cited transcription in which these time signatures appear is just that: a transcription in formal notation of a live-recorded, improvised piece of music.

It's clear that Walter royally screwed up his timing in that second chorus. The remarkable thing is that he and the band managed to get back on track without spoiling the piece. (Perhaps even more remarkable is that they decided to release the track with such a huge fluff in it. They clearly recognised that this added to the piece's personality - and the charts proved them right.) And he also throws in an extra half-bar in the third chorus.

In his (wonderful) transcription, Glenn Weiser has chosen to deal with these deviations by switching to 3:4 and 2:4 time - but I guarantee that Walter wasn't thinking in these time signatures as he was playing.

Basically I'm saying that the reference in the article to 3:4 and 2:4 time is missing the real point: that the piece contains significant flaws, and it is a masterpiece despite - in fact because of - these flaws. That this makes transcribing the piece just that much harder, as evidenced by the cited transcription, is incidental to this point. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.34.170.132 (talk) 12:06, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
