Splitting and merging of sections about different kinds of jugs[edit]

There is little reason to include the information about Puzzle jug here. Most of the material should be merged into the existing article Puzzle jug. The section Puzzle jug, if retained, should contain only the introductory sentence "A puzzle jug is a puzzle in the form of a jug." and the template {see|Puzzle jug}}.

There are many articles that link to Toby Jug. It is a whole subject in itself and should be in its own article just like Jug (musical instrument) already is. Making things even more complicated, there is also another highly linked article about the British politician Lord Toby Jug, and also the article Toby Jug Nebula. The section Toby Jug, if retained, should contain only an introductory sentence and the template {see|Toby Jug}}.

The section headed As a musical instrument is my model for the above two revised sections. If the section is retained, it is fine as is.

I am not sure that all three topics belong here, however. It might be better to simply put the links into the See also section as follows:

Toby Jug, a pottery jug in the form of a seated person
Puzzle jug, a puzzle in the form of a jug
Jug (musical instrument), a jug used as a musical instrument, often as part of a jug band

But this begins to look very much like a disambiguation page.

My main concern is to avoid loading up this article with information about jugs that have their own distinct identity and belong in distinct articles. --Foobarnix (talk) 17:20, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Original Talk page for the page Jug[edit]

The article Jug does not have its own Talk page. The Jug Talk tab currently takes you here to this talk page. I would have preferred keeping the original name Jug (container). In fact, what apparently happened is that somebody moved Jug (container) to Jug and the original Talk page got lost in the shuffle. You can find it if you go the original page Jug (container) (which is now a redirect).

I have become increasingly convinced that a legalistic insistence on a "purist" approach to article names (e.g., calling the article Jug (container) by the name Jug, or calling the article Washboard (laundry) by the name Washboard) leads to all sorts of trouble–unnoticed ambiguous links and lost talk pages for example. --Foobarnix (talk) 17:40, 23 September 2015 (UTC) This trouble with lost talk pages is the result of sloppily performed page moves, rather than with "legalistics".
