Comic book character[edit]

RE: 'where many were surprised that he was white'[edit]

Is this correct? Judge Dread 'sang' with a coarse cockney accent. It would be extremely surprising if many people thought he was Black. Unknown Unknowns (talk) 11:21, 7 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The sources do both make comment that many in the West Indies were surprised that Dread was a white man. From memory, some in the UK were also a bit unsure in the very early days of his success. Where does the 'coarse cockney accent' part come from ? It is not in the present Wiki article.

The 'coarse cockney accent part' comes from listening to his recordings. Perhaps people were unfamiliar with it in the West Indies 45 years ago? It's a bit surprising though, they'd have been familiar with British accents from British troops who were stationed there just 10 years earlier.
