President of the Government[edit]

Negrín was "Presidente del Gobierno" or "Presidente del Consejo"? I believed the first term was invented during Franco's dictatorship. In that case, instead of using the term President of the Government in the article it'd be better to say simply Prime Minister, the, in my opinion, best English translation in any case. Succession[edit]

The succession box claims Negrin was followed by Franco. However, the Republican government continued its activity in exile after the end of the war. So, who succeded Negrín, Franco or the next official president of the Republican government? MJGR 10:52, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV?[edit]

This entry doesn't really carry the same tone as the other articles relating to the Spanish Civil War. Also, it doesn't mention the extralegal purges of non-stalinist leftists by spanish communists (most notably, the abduction, torture, and murder of Andreas Nin) and Negrin's attempt to curtail the violence.

GOLD[edit]

The entry should also mention that Negrin transferred Spain's entire gold reserves to the Soviet Union, which refused to return them after the war claiming they were owed "storage fees". 23:08, 15 August 2007 User:Brokenarch

Run-on Sentence[edit]

On 18 May 1937, Manuel Azaña (after Largo was dismissed) named Negrín the 135th President of the Government, with the hope of fortifying the central power front against largely independent armed labor unions and Anarchists, thus curtailing the revolution in Republican Spain in order to create a state capable of simultaneously defeating Francisco Franco's rebel army and win the sympathy of progressive Catholics and members of the middle class who were revolted by the political and social oppression of the Republican Government, starting in 1935.

Please break it up into parts.
Whose hope does the sentence refer to?
"Franciso Franco's rebel army", does this refer to the Nationalist forces or something else?

potential plagarism and selective use of source[edit]

"He has been depicted as the principal responsible for losing the civil war, and has been charged with a dictatorial leadership style, selling Spain out to the Communists and robbing the Spanish treasury."

besides being grammatically incorrect, this is lifted almost directly from the source. the source mentions who said these things, so I'm not sure why it was left out. The sources' sources are also kind of weak - it just mentions "Francoist" and "Left" historians, and drops one name that I am not familiar with.

The source is also about a book that disproves these charges. I am going to reword this section to accurately reflect the source. Carlp941 (talk) 17:43, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
