Gelinek and Beethoven[edit]

According to Thayer, Tomasek quotes Gelinek as saying that Beethoven put motives into a notebook as they occurred to him (true) and then plucked them willynilly from the notebooks with no concern for rhyme or reason (paraphrasing the quote) when composing (not so much!!) This conversation is said to have taken place in 1814 the day after a rehearsal of sym 7. (We find Tomasek taking Beethoven's part, at least in retrospect?)
