poor reviews versus ambivalent reviews[edit]

Foer received some very favorable reviews for his second novel, and some poor reviews for his novel. It seems as though it's rather more controversial than the first, not decidedly poor. I would still place it in the critically acclaimed category -- but that decision would enunciate which reviewers I favor.

As such, I think that ambivalent is more accurate a term to describe the reception of his second novel.

Princeton Prizes[edit]

According to 63.206.99.138 there is only a senior creative writing thesis prize, but a quick search of the Princeton website suggests that there are prizes for other years as well ([1]) so I'm reverting to the previous edit for the moment, the information here [2] seems to support this. Personally, I have no idea how the prizes work, or whether or not Jonathan Safran Foer won the prizes listed or not, I'm just going on the information of others that I can find, so if someone actually knows something about them please feel free to put what ever is correct up. --Caprosser 12:16, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

According to Foer himself, when I heard him speak at a viewing of the film adaptation of Everything is Illuminated, he only won the Senior prize. I, sadly cannot source this, as there is no recording of what he said. Please explain[edit]

A vegetarian since the age of 10, Foer recorded the narration for "If This Is Kosher..."[1] (2006), a harsh exposé of the kosher certification process that advocates vegetarianism and also includes Rabbi David Wolpe and Rabbi Irving Greenberg.

I came here after searching for mentions of Rabbi Greenberg, whose article I started the other day. Please explain how the Rabbis are "included." Are they criticized in the film (if that's what it is, that needs clairification too)? Or are they supporters of its views? Thanks. Steve Dufour 20:18, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

he is god[edit]

I think this article should include the fact that Jonathan Safran Foer is the new god and overlord of the literary world. :-). Criticisms section[edit]

The Criticism section is full of uncited value judgements on the criticisms of JSF's work. Comments on criticisms need to be citied to a 3rd party. Wikieditors should be making judgements on whether a review of his work is 'hyperbolic' or 'reasonable'. I'm going to slowly sort things out. This section has improved but still needs to be beefed up, otherwise I will take out "He remains a somewhat polarizing figure among contemporary critics and academics, attracting both praise and criticism in equal measure" in intro. Mount Sinai School of Medicine[edit]

The cited NYT article clearly states that he never actually attended the medical school. He was part of the "Humanities and Medicine" program, but quit the program before medical school started.
This is the quote: "Typically, 5 percent to 10 percent of the class drops out before getting to medical school. Those students cannot handle the science or they have changed their minds about their intention to be a doctor, said Miki Rifkin, the program director. One who dropped out was Jonathan Safran Foer, who became an acclaimed novelist."

Discussion RE Natalie Portman relationship.[edit]

This article feels like a stub, as stated in a previous discussion post. I'm new to wikipedia, as such i don't feel at all qualified to make an edit on what i can assume is a highly viewed article. But I'm quite in the know, so to speak, on the relationship between Natalie Portman and Jonathan Safran Foer. While there is a large amount of, mostly flippant gossip surrounding the issue, I think it's important to address if the reader is to understand the context of Jonathan Safran Foer's works. This article is very lacking in terms of covering the response to Foer's quick rise to fame and fortune in the writing world, you can find a lot of good reports and I feel it would be good to aggregate some of the most reliable info into at least a paragraph our so. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Donburito (talk • contribs) 12:37, 29 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
