area changes[edit]

According to the Texas 2010 census report, this CDP had parts annexed to the city of Austin and lost additional area but I could not find anything to reflect those changes.[1] The site I rely on for area and coordinates does not list Jollyville. The map on MapTechnica shows Jollyville almost entirely engulfed by Austin. This makes me wonder if there were more changes after the 2010 census and Jollyville is no longer a CDP. Not a CDP but not a "Full Service" neighborhood either[edit]

This map of Austin Corporate Limits shows the Austin Full Purpose areas in yellow and Limited Purpose in green. There is an additional area inside the lines for Extra Territorial Jurisdiction.

The ETJ are unincorporated land within 5 miles that isn't already claimed by someone else, and is designated so only Austin can annex it. Sort of reserving its future acquisitions.

The yellow part are clearly the full service, fully annexed areas; what most of the maps show as the city limits.

The green part where Jollyville lies... "Limited purpose annexation extends the City's ordinances and regulations pertaining to land development and the environment and, in some cases, health and safety. The City collects no taxes in limited purpose areas and does not provide municipal services such as police protection. Residents may vote in city council and charter amendment elections. They may not vote in bond elections or run for office."[1]

So... sort of part of Austin? Maybe sort of like a territory? Yes Austin can tell them how to use their land but no Austin isn't going to send the police or fire trucks to protect them? Does that actually mean Jollyville is a neighborhood? Or not?

And part of Jollyville is still in the "unincorporated" ETJ--reserved for future acquisition. Is that part a "neighborhood of Austin"? Katrazyna (talk) 06:27, 1 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
