Untitled[edit]

To whom was the elephant presented? The year 1255 can't be right if John died in 1214. Adam Bishop 02:47, 3 February 2006 (UTC) Sciencebloke 20:40, 3 February 2006 (UTC)Good point - From what I understand the illustrated manuscript of the chronicles of John of Wallingford was completed by monks at St Albans some years after his death, and they were responsible for the illustration of the elephant. I've put a note to indicate that and a link to the picture of the elephant.[reply]

Just to point out that this was subsequently addressed with reference to "John of Wallingford, Infirmarius" who is likely responsible for the later work.

Confusion of two Johns?[edit]

We have two articles, this on the Abbot of St Albans, and John of Wallingford (writer) on the author of the chronicle. But this article also speaks of the chronicle, so we have a muddle. Assuming these really are two different men, this needs to be sorted out. I would suggest renaming this "John of Wallingford (abbot)" and the other one "John of Wallingford (historian)". --Doric Loon (talk) 10:08, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
