Can anyone shed any light on the banner of St. John flown at the Battle of the Standard?
The banner of St John of Beverley was one of the banners flown at the Battle of the Standard in 1138. Several banners and a pyx containing a consecrated host were attached to a ship's mast to create the standard which gave the battle its name. This is the earliest existing mention of the banner of St John. I'll add some text to the article about the banner. GalaxyHound 02:09, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not really objecting, but the pic of Beverley minster's very Gothic, so it's about 600 years too late to be contemporary. Be nice if we could find something closer in time, or at least point out the church isn't the one he would have used. Ealdgyth | Talk 13:39, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
