Description of politics[edit]

It seems like an outdated and heavily biased turn of phrase, to describe somebody who headed a "lynching club" in the pro-slavery U.S. south as an advocate of states rights, and to state without detail or qualification that he advocated for "humane reform" of Negro Laws. I do not know his biography apart from this article, so I hesitate to make bold changes, but I would urge that his political positions be described in plainer language, and ideally summarized in the lead section. -Pete Forsyth (talk) 22:06, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
