POV[edit]

Ok, this article is biased against the Representative in a major way. The lede needs to be rewritten to tell more about the Representative himself, instead of indicating that he might not be reelected. His political career needs to be expanded and separated - right now its part stance, part career, but mostly only about his 1994 election. 24.22.5.172 01:20, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the POV tag after revising the article to include more info (from the AP profile) and various other copyedits. If you want to put it back, please be SPECIFIC about examples of POV text. John Broughton 17:43, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There appears to be a concerted effort to retain POV and biased content. Editors Melbourne Star and Hullaballoo_Wolfowitz return and restore a section called "Controversies" that contains this POV and biased content. Various editors had noted since 2006 the existence of this bias but have been unable to make corrections apparently due to editors like Melbourne star and Hullabaloo Wolfwitz. I am going to remove the "Controversies" section again and I invite anyone who disagrees with this removal to paste a comment here. I further invite Melbourne star or Hullabaloo Wolfowitz to present any argument they have for the inclusion of the "Controversies" section. I do not believe that being "verified by reliable sources" (as alleged by Melbourne Star) overcomes the POV objection.99.117.60.126 (talk) 01:23, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

General[edit]

It seems that the last part of the article seems a little biased against the Representative. Anyone else feel this way?

I moderated it a little - as ineptitude goes, his isn't all that stellar. I left the title. I'm tempted to create a "List of Dumb Things said about Canada" article and cross-reference this and a few others.
Frankly, he reminds me of an old Indiana/Kentucky joke...
More seriously, does anyone know if he signed or didn't sign the Contract with America? The text is ambiguous, and I can't find a list of signatories in a casual search.
Later: he did, according to Issues 2000

Of course it is biased against the Representative. He is a Republican, and this is Wikipedia. Kardreader 03:53, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Remarks on Canada[edit]

I agree that this section, including the title, seemed biased. I say that even though I: a) am Canadian; b) thought his remarks were not just ill-informed but darn-near imbecilic. So I rewrote parts to add clarifying detail and change the section title to make it more NPOV. That said, while this section is newsworthy today, I have to wonder whether six months from now it will still merit retention. Rrburke

Okay, he has no understanding of Toronto geography. I think, though, that a bit too much time is spent pointing this out; one needn't describe everything one can find in "South Toronto". --Saforrest 21:44, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Methinks the Rt. Hon. John Hostettler might just be remembered as a no more than an ignorant biggot. --Mark Forest

Mr. Forest, this is not a blog. The purpose of talk pages is discuss the content of the article, not to give opinions of the subject matter. Please remember that. Thanks. --rogerd 17:59, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
On top of what Rogerd said, note that American congressman are not entitled to the honorific "Rt. Hon.". Hell, even in Canada we reserve that for prime ministers and a select few others. --Saforrest (talk) 21:51, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- I would note that the person who supplies the "south toronto" u of t map is grossly mistaken. It's an old map, and the term is not used in almost any other context. I live in "south toronto" and did a geog degree at said university - No one calls it south toronto. no one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.232.7.47 (talk) 04:36, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tom Delay's financial support[edit]

According to FEC records, Hostettler in 1998 returned financial support from Americans for a Republican Majority PAC. Jmoore34 03:43, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good point. I added a sentence to the article noting that the PAC money was returned, but that the money from DeLay's congressional committee was kept. Do you know the story behind that? Why did Hostettler return one source of DeLay funds but not the other? Thanks. Propol 15:50, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Picture/Info box[edit]

Can we fit this page with a picture and an infobox?--Twintone 20:43, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Post-election?[edit]

Does anyone have substantiated links suggesting he may be hired into a top Rose-Hulman administrative position now that he has been voted out? I have heard a few rumors of this on blogs, but nothing "legit."

Early Life[edit]

I think this is a B article, but could we please get more information about his early life? ludahai 魯大海 15:05, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
