Floyd County, Kentucky[edit]

Nice article! I missed its appearance on the main page.

Apparently Floyd County, Kentucky, is named for him, as indicated on List of counties in Kentucky. If someone reading this has The Kentucky Encyclopedia, can you double check this and provide the footnote? Thanks! —Kevin Myers 08:35, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Floyd, Burford, and Stewart families[edit]

I changed the name of John Floyd's first wife, to her real name, Matilda Burford. She is the daughter of Daniel Burford of Amherst Co. There was another child mentioned in Daniel Burford's will, John Floyd Burford, natural son of Virginia Burford Taylor. Mourning Floyd married John Stewart, John Floyd Burford married John Stewart's sister, Ann Stewart. Both of these couples migrated from Amherst Co. VA to Oglethorpe Co. GA. John Floyd Burford changed his name to John Burford Floyd, and it's family tradition that John Burford Floyd was the son of John Floyd. There was a third Floyd-Stewart marriage--Charles Floyd, son of William Floyd and Abadiah Davis, married Mary Stewart, sibling of John and Ann Stewart. Gen. Pat M. Stevens IV descends from Mourning Floyd and John Stewart.Nicketti (talk) 05:36, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Source of name of James John Floyd[edit]

I believe that the source for "James" as the first name for Col. John Floyd is the marriage license application for John Floyd and Letitia Preston which was taken out in Frankfort KY in 1804, but have not confirmed this with the Franklin County, KY Clerks' office. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gelatto (talk • contribs) 12:12, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
