Which DoD is Dod?[edit]

Does anyone know which "DoD" the reference to "DoD programming" on this page is meant to refer to? Is is the US Department of Defence? We should link directly to it if so... Drevicko (talk) 10:27, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DoD would be American Department of Defense. Ada was a DoD created software language that was heavily promoted in the 1980s(?). While it was decreed to be a DoD "standard" it ran into the rise/popularity of languages such as C & C++ and never took hold. DEddy (talk) 13:31, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Need real sources[edit]

Currently, the only "references" on this page are to the subject's own home page, and it seems to be a pain to find any third-party references. This seems to run counter to the standards of notability and verifiability. If further references can not be found, this article probably should not exist. I just started improving this article, and I also (still) have trouble finding third-party references. However, Google Scholar ( here) is quite convincing about his notability:

His 1986 book Conceptual structures: information processing in mind and machine is cited 4244 times.
His 2000 book Knowledge representation: logical, philosophical, and computational foundations is cited 2868 times
His 1992 article with John Zachman "Extending and formalizing the framework for information systems architecture" is cited 855 times
... etc

For this reason I removed the "Notability" and added a fact-tag. I will look into this some more, and try to find the right references. -- Mdd (talk) 14:56, 23 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

He was the co-author of one of John Zachman's Framework papers in the IBM Systems Journal. Please do not let Wikipedia's "notability/veriiiabilty" practices get in the way of including Sowa's page. He's a major contributor to computing. DEddy (talk) 16:07, 23 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
