Pronunciation[edit]

Listening to a the audio commentary to a Francis Ford Coppola film, Coppola pronounces Cazale's name as [kəˈsæl]. Is this the standard pronunciation of his name? I would have guessed [kaˈzale]. If so, it might be worth adding to the article. --babbage 20:40, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the right pronunciation is kaˈzale, in Italian you must pronounce all the letters.
/kaˈzale/ is not standard Italian for Cazale. Letter z is pronounced either /tts/ or /ddz/. In case you write Casale, the standard is /ka'sale/ with /s/. [1] --Erinaceus (talk) 21:09, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting. I wonder if anyone can source his full ancestry? His father, John Cazale, was the grandson of four Italian immigrants. His mother was born Cecilia M. Holland. Her parents were both born in Ireland, according to census records. I can find no reference to his Irish heritage in any old newspapers or the like, only Italian. I wonder if anyone can? If Cazale had lived longer, I guess he would have become another one of many famous Italian-Irish character actors. (Here is his page on ancestry.com). Photo?[edit]

The photo of Cazale in a tuxedo is captioned for Dog Day Afternoon. This is obviously wrong. Is it from the Godfather? Z Wylld 14:35, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good catch. Seeing a hint of a mid-20th-century army uniform next to him, I'm guessing it's from the beginning of the first Godfather movie. That's probably Pacino next to him. Either way, it lacks copyright clearance. Uucp 14:47, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The picture shows (l-r) Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, James Caan and Cazale. It's actually a posed promotional still relating to the first Godfather film; it's not a scene that appears in the film. Martan 01:09, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Does anyone know where this image of him with Meryl Streep came from? If so, I can add the details. I assume it's from "The Deer Hunter" but wasn't positive. Wikiwatcher1 (talk) 22:26, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

filmography[edit]

He was in the original Dawn of the Dead. Have we collectively decided to ignore this?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.185.191.160 (talkcontribs)

I doubt it, probably just a simple oversight. I would be amazed if censorship has arrived here but who knows anymore :) Do you have a citation? If so, add it to the article or post it here and I can do it or whatever. Cheers, --Tom 15:31, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You sure it was him? I don't see this. Maybe this is censorshp :) I am sure some movie buff will help us :) --Tom 16:01, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I know what character you mean. He was in the TV station in the first scene of Dawn Of The Dead. When I saw it, I thought it was him too but it isn't. Cazale died in March of 1978 and Dawn of the Dead did not start shooting until Fall 1978 for a 1979 release. The guy looks a hell of a lot like him though :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.30.187.121 (talk) 22:09, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He was also in The Conversation , the filmography section needs work. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.27.115.116 (talk) 14:55, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. Nice one :) 86.27.115.116 (talk) 14:57, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cited diagnosis[edit]

Note that someone is continuing to ignore the sources giving his cause of death by changing it. No rationale is given. --Wikiwatcher1 (talk) 18:30, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say start treating it as vandalism. That's certainly what it is. Wildhartlivie (talk) 23:42, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not funny, but I'm guessing the IP assumes his heavy smoker role in Dog Day Afternoon, where he was accused of abusing his body, is the real world cause. --Wikiwatcher1 (talk) 23:47, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I can see where someone would think that, but actually, it seems a bit more pointy than that. Maybe an anti-smoking crusader? Wildhartlivie (talk) 00:52, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's also possible. --Wikiwatcher1 (talk) 01:08, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It depends on what you mean by 'ignoring the sources'. The source quoted is the only existing documentary on Cazale (to the best of my knowledge), 'I knew it was you', in which all the people interviewed clearly state that he had lung cancer. If you are convinced that he had bone cancer, then I invite YOU to quote your source. Before labelling an edit as 'vandalism', you should refer to the source quoted in the edit, rather than assuming that the sources (which?) are bening ignored by the 'vandal'.Ma Zhenguo (talk) 09:03, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Was he a regular cigarette smoker in life?Betathetapi545 (talk) 17:59, 24 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sources for bone cancer here, here and here. InedibleHulk (talk) 06:56, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Year of Birth[edit]

He was born in 1935, not 1936. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.237.34.211 (talk) 13:16, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Theater[edit]

John was acting in Edgartown for the summer of 1958 in "The Drunkard" and then bought the show to the Charles Street Playhouse in the first week of September 1958. See the Boston newspapers. 2603:8001:1400:2F2E:6999:F71A:6738:3217 (talk) 03:23, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
