This is Kevin Donovan, Communication Director for the Diocese of Manchester. I am not an impartial editor so do not wish to make changes to this page myself, but I have two corrections to the section of this page titled "Bishop of Manchester." Would an unbiased contributor please review these errors and consider making corrections.

First, this sentence: "In April of that same year, he was removed from his post as chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Ad Hoc Committee on Sexual Abuse." This is sourced to a NYT article that does not give this information. The relevant NYT article is this one: http://www.nytimes.com/2002/04/20/arts/scandals-church-hierarchy-bishops-replace-head-sexual-abuse-panel-name-new.html This article does not say the bishop was removed, but that "the bishop had offered his resignation as chairman of the committee to better comply with the responsibilities of his home diocese in Manchester."

Second, the next sentence in the paragraph: "McCormack later admitted to reassigning pedophilic priests, but claimed poor file-keeping had kept him from knowing the full extent of the problem." This is sourced to the same NYT article, "Bishop Tells of His Role in Shuffling." There is an error in this article.

The lead sentence of the article reads, "John B. McCormack, the Roman Catholic bishop of Manchester, acknowledged in an interview published today that in a previous post as an official of the Boston Archdiocese, he reassigned priests accused of molesting children."

This is an incorrect rewrite. This NYT copy says it is based upon an article in the New Hampshire Union Leader. That article is titled "McCormack hopes to restore trust with 'personal presence'" dated May 2, 2002. The relevant language reads: "While he said he was not responsible for the reassignment of priests, he would make recommendations to the vicar for administration and, as delegate for sexual misconduct, to an independent review board. He said there were times he recommended a priest accused of sexual abuse be reassigned, 'but it would be to restricted ministry where he would never have contact with children.'"

== Enthroned? Reign Ended? ==

Just a tad over-blown, don't you think? None of the other bishops of Manchester have this language in their bio's. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.195.157.9 (talk) 03:43, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
