John Alonzo vs Nestor Almendros?[edit]

The accolades for Alonzo, specifically regarding his being the first Latino cinematographer inducted into the ASC, etc:

Nestor Almendros was a contemporary of Alonzo’s, their careers almost precisely contemporaneous. Alonzo was a Mexican American, Almendros a Spanish American—both were ASC members, but not sure who joined first. Certainly Almendros long-preceded Alonzo in feature films; prior to Chinatown, Alonzo was mostly a documentary cinematographer throughout his career.
