CITEVAR[edit]

Please respect the existing citation style in use on this page, which is inline {{cite}}-family templates. Nikkimaria (talk) 15:41, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm the first major editor to this page afaics, please respect the citation style of the first major editor, per WP:CITEVAR. --Francis Schonken (talk) 15:53, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The article was created using the style I identified above. Nikkimaria (talk) 15:55, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Still doesn't make you the first major contributor. If I remember correctly we've had a similar discussion before. According to WP:CITEVAR, it's not "the first editor" but the "first major contributor" (emphasis added) who gets to determine the citation style. I'm disappointed you try to get the upper hand by starting an edit war: the scheme I propose is WP:BRD, that is, after my revert, discussion here till consensus is reached. The guidance is rather straightforward: the first major contributor gets to determine the citation style: applying that guidance as it is would lead fairly easy to consensus, imho. --Francis Schonken (talk) 16:03, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Prior to your edits the article had an "established citation style"; as per CITEVAR "If the article you are editing is already using a particular citation style, you should follow it". Your proposed interpretation is inconsistent with that guidance. Nikkimaria (talk) 16:13, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
"As with spelling differences, it is normal practice to defer to the style used by the first major contributor ... (etc)" – no, my interpretation is correct. A minimal stub, with three sentences (one of which half-nonsensical, completely rewritten in the mean while) and two references (one of which to an unreliable source, and consequently already removed), does not establish a citation style. That's why the first major contributor gets to determine the style. But again, trying to "win" by edit-warring, before engaging in honest discussion, is where it goes completely wrong. --Francis Schonken (talk) 16:28, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Creating the article using a particular citation style = establishing a citation style. Nikkimaria (talk) 16:47, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
