Copyright problem[edit]

This article has been investigated as part of Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Wysinger. Content added by User:Wysinger (see [1]) has been copied and closely paraphrased from various sources, including All About Jazz and the Virgin Encyclopedia of the Blues. (While there is no archived version of All About Jazz that predates the article, there's no doubt it came first, as the contributor cited it in his edits.) The article needs to be rewritten, stubbed or reverted to an old version, I'm afraid, as all material placed by this user is suspect. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:29, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problem removed[edit]

Prior content in this article duplicated one or more previously published sources. The material was copied from: All About Jazz and the Virgin Encyclopedia of the Blues (please see above). Copied or closely paraphrased material has been rewritten or removed and must not be restored, unless it is duly released under a compatible license. (For more information, please see "using copyrighted works from others" if you are not the copyright holder of this material, or "donating copyrighted materials" if you are.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or published material; such additions will be deleted. Contributors may use copyrighted publications as a source of information, and according to fair use may copy sentences and phrases, provided they are included in quotation marks and referenced properly. The material may also be rewritten, but only if it does not infringe on the copyright of the original or plagiarize from that source. Therefore such paraphrased portions must provide their source. Please see our guideline on non-free text for how to properly implement limited quotations of copyrighted text. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with these policies. Thank you. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 14:53, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Justlettersandnumbers: the rev-deletions have been made, though I'm really not happy about throwing out all of the constructive intermediary edits, I'm going to message any contributors and will provide temporary version restores upon request to any of them. — xaosflux Talk 22:04, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The version of 21 Oct 2014 is available on the Internet Wayback Machine; I'll use that to restore my edits. Whbjr (talk) 00:47, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Xaosflux, your solution seems a good one. I'm not at all happy about it either, whenever it happens (which unfortunately is extremely often), and I apologise to all whose useful edits were lost in the clean-up. Thanks also to those who have started rebuilding the article. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:09, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
