Joe Turner, song on Lomax tapes[edit]

I'm not familiar with the subject of this article as a play, but the title is a line from an early blues song, performed for Alan Lomax by Big Bill Broonzy. On the Alan Lomax: Blues Songbook (Disc 2) Broonzy describes Joe Turner as a legendary character, and speaks about the origins of the song in early blues. In the song, Joe Turner is powerful, generous and kind.

It appears that within this play, there is also a character named Joe Turner. But who seems to be the boss on a chain gang. - Michael J Swassing (talk) 23:59, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The writers need to brush up on their math. The play is set in 1911. If Herald is 32 years old, then he was not a former slave, not having been born until 1879.66.157.126.231 (talk) 18:00, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
