Is the above comment a joke?. What relevance does it have?. Is the fact that straight people have HIV / AIDS any indication of their sexuality?. A totally pointless comment bound up in homophobia...oh and by the way, yes, I do believe that Jermaine was gay!

Asking if Stewart was gay is NOT a "totally pointless comment bound up in homophobia." He is most known for speaking out about HIV and AIDS in the late 80s (and, yes, dying of an AIDS-related illness a decade later). "We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off" was released in 1986 during the height of the AIDS panic. This was a time when HIV was only beginning to gain momentum in heterosexual circles. The vast majority of HIV positive adults in the 1980s were gay men. In fact, AIDS was still being called Gay Cancer into the early 90s. Of course straight people got HIV then just as they do now, but there are statistical and cultural reasons to suspect Stewart might have been gay. If the person asking about Stewart's sexuality above were really homophobic, he (or she) would probably have just edited the article to say Stewart was gay instead of coming to the talk page to ask. --Ddawn23 (talk) 05:48, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

LGBT categories have been added, then removed, added again, removed again etc. There are many online sources which claim he was homosexual, but most, if not all, of them would not qualify as reliable sources as far as Wikipedia is concerned. He was certainly camp; that, combined with the facts he had AIDS and that there is no real evidence of him being straight, make it almost certain he was homosexual. However, that does not prove his orientation, and it is not sufficient for it to be stated on his article that he was not heterosexual. Werdnawerdna (talk) 01:05, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He regularly used to discuss his taste in women in interviews; of course that could be a cover. But regardless, if he didn't state he was homosexual, he shouldn't be classified as a homosexual musician - it's not for us to guess. Smurfmeister (talk) 11:17, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
