House of a thousand arseholes[edit]

1. I never heard of this "nickname". Been living near it for like 10 years.

2. The term doesn't translate into Cantonese nor Mandarin well. The catch phase "The house of-" doesn't even really exist in satisfying manner.

3. I can not think of a way to say this same phase in Cantonese nor Mandarin that are not overwhelmingly clumsy. There is such a thing regarding to nickname. It has to "run" smoothly out of your speech.

4. As most people in Hong Kong do not use English on their day to day conversation, having such a nickname seem unrealistic.

5. Such an entry only exist in the English edition of the Wiki.

I reinstated the nickname with a ref. When I worked there from 1995-8 this was a common nickname for the building. The Cantonese is apparently "sing chin ki szee fat long". Mztourist (talk) 08:34, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

When I was a small Mr Larrington in HK in the early 1970s it was known as the Cheese Building due to its resemblance to a Swiss dairy product. I must say I preferbthe "thousand arseholes" nickname though. Mr Larrington (talk) 04:06, 2 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
