Contested deletion[edit]

This page should not be speedy deleted as an unambiguous copyright infringement, because...I was the original author of the copyright bio in question. I rewrote the copy to be sure we avoid any overlap. This is my first submission, so please advise if I should make other changes. Hello and welcome! Because this text has been published on http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/library/about/bios.htm#welch with a copyright notice, we can't use it here even if you are the original author, unless some further action is taken. Essentially we need the copyright owner to release the content under a free license so that Wikipedia can re-distribute it for any purpose (even commercial, which nysed.gov doesn't allow). The steps to do that can be found at WP:DCM. It will require the copyright holder to verify their identity and ownership (privately of course) and then agree to the free license release. Depending on your relationship with nysed.gov, the copyright may be held by yourself, or by them if your work assigned it to them. Either way, the volunteers at WP:DCM will help you sort through that. In the meantime, the copied text must be removed for legal reasons until the release is processed. Hi, I concur that the text in question is not an unambiguous copyright violation, as per the New York State Department of Education, "permission to copy, use, and distribute materials created by and/or credited to the New York State Education Department and contained on the New York State Education Department Website is hereby granted without fee for personal, private and educational purposes" (emphasis mine) ([1]). That being said, text copied and pasted from other websites is generally not written in a form appropriate to an encyclopedia, so some editing of the copied text might be necessary. —KuyaBriBri^Talk 15:20, 10 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In the above TOS, you left out except that reproducing materials for profit or any commercial use is strictly forbidden without express prior written permission of the New York State Education Department, which is a constraint incompatible with CC-BY-SA. I don't know if a CV blanking is appropriate, as the opening sentence is fine, and asserts notability to avoid a CSD, but the rest of the page is not usable here until the license release is processed. I agree with both of you that we don't have a compatible CC license, but I think we do have enough to say that it's not an unambiguous copyvio and therefore doesn't meet WP:G12. Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating for retaining the copied text. I probably should have been more firm above that the copied text will need to be changed.
