Thundercats[edit]

The actual composer of music for the Thundercats animated television show was Bernard Hoffer, as supported by multiple references on imdb, and in the end credits of the show itself. Ewige (talk) 18:12, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Does anyone have any idea where the rumor that he wrote it came from? Internet prank? DFS (talk) 22:36, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jessica Alba[edit]

Is he actually married to Jessica Alba? I doubt it, and a quick internet search revealed no evidence supporting the claim. HalfBrian (talk) 08:48, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No he's not. I've now corrected it. Courseiam (talk) 02:25, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pilot[edit]

I understand that Lipton is a private pilot. There should be some mention of that in the article. --65.33.226.154 01:54, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

End-of-interview questions[edit]

How about a list of Lipton's trademark end-of-interview questions — like "What's your favorite sound?" or "When you arrive in Heaven, what would you like to hear God say?" I know there are a bunch.

There's mention of them on the Inside the Actors Studio page, with a link to Bernard Pivot. Pivot actually came up with those questions (Lipton credits him on every episode), so a full list of them would probable more rightly go on his page. --Brian Olsen 22:01, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jewish or atheist?[edit]

He's categorized as both a Jew and an atheist. I know Judaism has more of a "cultural aspect" to it, but I don't think we should categorize him in Judaism unless he's a practicing Jew or at least not an atheist.142.176.114.243 03:41, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Untrue -- being Jewish is more than a religion. Larry Dunn 15:36, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In some languages, "Jewish" refers to religion and "Hebrew" refers to lineage. English lacks this distinction, thus the seemingly-contradictory "Jewish atheist."NeoAdamite (talk) 22:12, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

1926?[edit]

He can't be 80 years old!! There has to be some kind of mistake here. He looks like he's 60!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.83.180.168 (talk)

Actually, he's slightly older. I was a student at the Actors Studio Drama School, and during my second year - which would have been fall of 2003 - we had a surprise birthday party for him. It was his 80th, which would make his birthdate 1923. I was going to add this to the article, but I don't have any reference for it. But yes, he's in his early 80s! --Brian Olsen 17:58, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Photo[edit]

Don't you think that, if there's going to be a picture of Will Ferrell's impersonation, there should at least be a picture of the real Lipton? patton1138 18:06, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was thinking the exact same thing. The screenshot of Ferrell is fair use, so there's no reason we couldn't use a fair use photo of Lipton if there's no free use alternative. I saw the article and was a little shocked and a little appalled at the photo selection. -- Kicking222 17:23, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. -anonymous6494 02:27, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I uploaded a screenshot of James Lipton and thought I had met all the fair use criteria, but it has been deleted anyway. I'm really not sure what the problem was. A shame. Brian Adler 12:34, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Parodies[edit]

I understand that parody of Lipton is almost iconic in pop culture, but isn't the tail wagging the dog here a bit? There's much more description of the parodies of the man, than of the man himself. The Parodies section should probably be trimmed more than a little. Larry Dunn 15:35, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pimp[edit]

Before getting into a revert war . . . . It seems to me pimp is a valid former occupation and category. It has the advantage of being both true and noteworthy. I'll wait for any discussion before reverting the last revert, but I think we should retain pimp under occupation and category. Editor437 02:28, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. To do otherwise would be splitting hairs, not to mention misleading. NoVomit (talk) 16:43, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What is this crap?[edit]

Seriously, what kind of crap biography is this? He's a writer, poet, and dean emeritus of the Actors Studio Drama School in New York City? What books did he write, when? When was he is Paris? What theater/movie roles has he had? When was he dean of the Actor Studio? Just a couple of basic questions a biography should answer. This article, as it is, is completely worthless... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.82.215.23 (talk) 05:34, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Legitimate points -- Remember, anyone can edit, so feel free to make whatever changes you want to answer precisely these questions Editor437 09:38, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I added the Paris years and the movie credit. The other questions were already in the article. The Actors Studio Drama School and the Actors Studio are two different things. One of the problems of adding dates is that Lipton's autobiography has entire sections with no dates given at all. Pepso2 19:03, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

X-Entertainment[edit]

Shouldn't the James Lipton character in X-Entertainment's Advent Calendar be be mentioned in the popular culture references section? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.10.214.90 (talk) 18:47, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Family[edit]

Has he ever had any siblings or children? Qzm (talk) 02:03, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Public Service Announcements[edit]

He's doing PSA's about teens doing stupid things with cell phones. http://adweek.blogs.com/adfreak/yrs-give-it-a-ponder-campaign-for-lg.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bizzybody (talkcontribs) 09:08, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reference # 7 in this article[edit]

" Refer to Dan's Paper issue of February 8, 2008" This is the entire reference. What kind of reference is this? Totally unclear how to read this "paper". Wanderer57 (talk) 19:51, 17 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with Ref#7 above[edit]

I want to ask the same question. Should someone delete the info supposedly referenced with reference? Followers of blog danspapers get http://danshamptons.com/blogs/dans-daily/ Can you find 2008 date? I cannot. James Lipton plays himself, an interviewer, in 2008 film Igor asking questions for sweet monster Eva's acting lesson, so wanted to know who he is, added role to Wiki. I like Filmography charts with years, show, roles, whether lead or guest, maybe how many shows.

I thought personal blogs are not allowed as references, only official newspaper, magazine, television, official-type sites? Maybe just expand? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Five_pillars http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources#Webpages

Young-looking[edit]

This guy looks awefully young to be born in 26. I'm curious about his diet etc. Clf99 (talk) 19:34, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Agree[edit]

Old publicity photo like Agatha Christie used (see bio "The Mystery of Agatha Christie" for usual photo and her final year true)? Cosmetic surgery? Year photo posted, found, contributed, not taken? See funny comparison http://www.google.ca/imgres?hl=en&safe=off&sa=X&tbo=d&rlz=1C1SKPL_enCA404&biw=1022&bih=630&tbm=isch&tbnid=dKraIr81JJo0JM:&imgrefurl=http://theberry.com/2012/02/03/age-is-only-a-number-for-these-celebs-16-photos/same-age-5-3/&docid=PIuKQow-mIqjfM&imgurl=http://shechive.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/same-age-5.jpg&w=500&h=329&ei=rge3UOWVJI2I2gWa7oGABw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=113&vpy=162&dur=9690&hovh=182&hovw=277&tx=72&ty=91&sig=114430530484589594819&page=1&tbnh=148&tbnw=216&start=0&ndsp=17&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:0,i:88 Or maybe real, when different background shows up? http://www.zimbio.com/pictures/J_omNIAxpN2/Stars+New+York+City+Ballet+Ocean+Kingdom/ALKt9M7G-WM/James+Lipton AnEyeSpy (talk) 06:39, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Adolescent?[edit]

I dispute the use of the term "adolescent" to describe his time as a "procurer". According to the Parade interview, this occurred "After the war" which would make him in his late teens-early 20s. 70.72.211.35 (talk) 13:46, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Huge gaps[edit]

This article has huge gaps that should be filled. Why does he speak French? When and why did he arrive in France? Did he serve in the US military? When? What did he do during the war years? Did he get mustered out after the Second World War and then decided to work as a procurer for prostitutes? If so, that seems a bit odd.

Can someone enlighten us? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Isoruku (talkcontribs) 08:43, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Air Force?[edit]

Just looked at this article again after two years. It now says that Lipton "enlisted in the United States Air Force" in the "mid-1940s." Well, the US Air Force didn't exist until after World War II. It isn't a good idea to just copy and paste some article that has an error in it.

Might be interesting to have some actual details of his wartime service since that's kinda relevant when we are talking about people who were born in the 1920s.

Years active section is wrong[edit]

I just checked IMDB, and he had a credit in 2019 for Arrested Development. So I changed it to 2019 if that's okay.
