English? British?

I believe it is correct to call Jade, English. Just look at Leona Lewis, Andy Abraham or Alexandra Burke and you will see. And no english doesnt equal british.. its two different things. Lets have a discussion.--Judo112 (talk) 17:34, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

British is sutch a wide term and to unspecific.... And Jade has labeled herself English. Even saying in one interview on the UK national selection that she would feel proud to represent England.. while she ment the UK which caused some controversy. English is used in many other articles on singers and sutch as those above which are all born in the same area as Jade Ewen to.--Judo112 (talk) 17:45, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
Fine but I'd take issue with Leona as her one of her parents is part welsh so I'd say she was British. Lets leave it at English then. What I mean was all English are British, just as all Scots are. 安東尼 TALK 圣诞快乐 17:54, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
Cheers mate. Dont take it personal. Just wanted to make it clearer what i ment:). have a nice day. Good picture by the way--Judo112 (talk) 17:56, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
I don't know enough about this lady to know what she identifies herself as, but if she does identify herself as English, then, I believe, this is certainly what she should be credited as. Perhaps a citation may help on this issue. As far as her participation in Eurovision is concerned, I don't see a problem with her being labelled as English while representing the UK.Sky83 (talk) 17:57, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Why is it important that she is a black singer?

I find it entirely irrelevant to point out that she is the sixth black singer to enter Eurovision from the UK. If this is kept, is there anyone willing to count up the white entrants? Or those with blonde hair and those with red hair? See what I mean? This line doesn't need to be included since it is nothing to do with her ability to succeed in Eurovision, or the reason she is taking part. Sky83 (talk) 16:34, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

I agree if she was the first then maybe, but it does seem a little like trivia. I don't think in the UK people are that bothered about which race someone is from 安東尼 TALK 圣诞快乐 17:11, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
Agreed. seems irrelevant.--Judo112 (talk) 17:47, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
Consider it changed. If it can be proved to be relevant, it can be added back, but I highly doubt this will happen. Sky83 (talk) 17:53, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

It's not "irrelevant" at all. There is an ongoing debate around whether non-white acts are penalised in the televoting at Eurovision on account of their race. The UK's entry in 2008 came last and there was media speculation over the role played in that by the fact he was black, not least by "Mr Eurovision" himself, Terry Wogan. Vauxhall1964 (talk) 20:07, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

If that is true, and I can't say either way since I've heard nothing about that, perhaps add it somewhere else in the article, but without a citation it definitely shouldn't be there, because as it stands, it is irrelevant. Sky83 (talk) 20:26, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
Is it not possible that he came last .. because he was rubbish? He was terrible, Britains worst entry (After Scooch, of course) 80.6.152.186 (talk) 20:38, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Date of Birth

She was registered on the UK birth register in February 1987, this is a far more reliable source than the papers who likely just looked up her DoB/age on here! Judo112, the reference Biographies 1 added works fine but you need to manually search for it yourself, there's no apparent way to provide a link for the search itself. Just click the search link for 1984-2006 births, put in Jade and Ewen and for the names and extend the date range to eg 1989, it'll be the only result. Bambers (talk) 21:39, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

You need to discuss it here first, then change if that is what we decide. During the contest, I remember her being described as 21 (1987 birth would make her 22) and this] BBC article also says she is 21. I find it hard to believe that the organization that sent her to Eurovision has no idea how old she is. Grk1011/Stephen (talk) 22:11, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
I agree with Grk1011.. she has been described as 21 everywhere. She cant be 22.--MarkusBJoke (talk) 10:40, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
However, another point is that she all the time has been told as 21, but n.b. that, if the birth date is correct she had her birthday on the same night as the final in the BBC "Your country needs you", so people just know her as 21, maybe she was it before the 24th January. All reviews and interviews maybe are built up on old sources. And sources say that she began her career as Nala in "The Lion King" when she was twelve years old. And this musical started up in West End october 1999, and if she was acting from the start, she must be born in 1987. /--Christian47 (talk) 11:13, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
All sources indicate a 1988 birth.. all papers says 21. The only source that say 22 is a register of some sort which dont give Jade Ewen away as the definite person.. So dont change the birhtdate.--Judo112 (talk) 11:19, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Also Jade Ewens facebook page has 1988 as birth date.--Judo112 (talk) 11:20, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Well the 'register of some sort' is the UK national register (GRO) of births, marriages and deaths. This is part of UK law. Whenever anyone is born here their details must be registered within 42 days of the birth (name, mother, father, their address(es) etc.) these are then used on your birth certificate. Every month the local registrar will send all entries to the GRO in london where they are entered onto a database, it's incredibly unlikely to have any mistakes, particularly on the date of entry. The date can be further backed up by her sister's registration (search for ewen and a mother's maiden name of brown) which was Oct 1988, this would be only 8 months after Jade's birth if it was truly 1988. To be wrong on both would be impossible. The register is a far more reliable source than the media, they'd have simply looked it up on here where her DoB has been put as 1988 since the 2nd of Feb this year completely unreferenced until last week by a reference it had clearly made for itself. I think something like Christian47 suggested has happened, she was said to be 21 on the "Your Country Needs You" series and whoever first added the DoB neglected to add on the birthday that had just happened. Incidentally, does anyone actually have a reference for specifically being 24th of January rather than just January? I think the last para of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons#Reliable_sources is highly relevant here. Bambers (talk) 09:49, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Sugababes rumour

Currently this is a rumour until there is a reliable source for it. SunCreator (talk) 22:58, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

Even the sources say it's a rumour. But she can't join Sugababes because her name is too normal. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 23:12, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
Thats quite true. Please can we make sure that this "rumour" is not mentioned on any page relating to Sugababes, Jade Ewen or any of their discography or album pages. (i have reverted Ewen's album as it is not confirmed, and i am watching Ewen's personal pahe) (Lil-unique1 (talk) 00:11, 19 September 2009 (UTC))
There is no problem mentioning the rumour as long as it is described as such. Currently a lot of news source to verify it's a rumour. Just can't claim anymore without a reliable source. SunCreator (talk) 00:26, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm keeping an eye on the Sugababes page, as well as both artists' navigation templates, and this page. It shouldn't really be mentioned as a rumour, as it is speculation until confirmed by a reliable source. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 00:31, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
And the Amelle Berrabah page. SunCreator (talk) 00:59, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
New info [1]. SunCreator (talk) 01:55, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

I suggest we steer clear of the issue until there is an official statement about what's happening. Until Amelle, Jade Ewen, Keisha, Heidi or the record label themselves confirm the news it is best to keep out of the article. (Lil-unique1 (talk) 01:59, 19 September 2009 (UTC))

Well im just saying thateven Sky News text has reported that Jade Ewen is a new member so.--Judo112 (talk) 10:49, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
What did they say? Why is nothing on Sky news website? Did they report there is a rumour or there is reports... edits require a reliable confirmation. SunCreator (talk) 13:08, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Posting here now as people are still saying she's joining the Sugababes: she's not. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 13:03, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

Oh, she actually is. Confirmed on Sugababes own website. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 19:07, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
Yes its confirmed as of september 21, 2009.--Judo112 (talk) 21:18, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
