36 Wooden Men

This is the same film as Shaolin Wooden Men and there was already a stub on it Bangers 20:06, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

In the UK the standard name for this film is "Shaolin Chamber of Death", and in the US it appears to be "Shaolin Wooden Men". What is the original Hong Kong title?

I guess this is just one example of the incomplete info on JC films flying around the net. It would be good if as many of his films as possible had decent articles, which clarify naming issues etc. According to IMDb, the (Romanised) Cantonese title is Shao Lin mu ren xiang - what does this translate to? Also noted the actual number of "wooden men" varies in different reviews - from 36 to 100 to 108. Gram 10:00, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

"Shao Lin Mu Ren Xiang" direct translation would be "Shao Lin Wood Men Rank". I'm guessing on "Xiang". There is a Xiang that means "rank" - which is related to soldier-type guys. Outtakes

I just made a change to trivia. It stated that Jackie ended EVERY movie with outtakes. None of his early movies had outtakes. He didn't do that until he did Cannonball Run (which featured outtakes in the closing credits). It is very easy to view his early movies and see that they do not have outtakes. I have heard that some have been illegally re-released with outtakes ripped from his later movies, but I don't have any illegal DVDs (to my knowledge). --Kainaw ^(talk) 02:56, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Someone inserted this paragraph into the biography section:

"In July, 2006, Jackie reportedly leaped on stage during a concert in his native Hong Kong while under the influence of alcohol. The actor had been invited to attend the performance by Taiwanese singer/songwriter Jonathan Lee by the singer himself, but unexpectedly took to the stage and disrupted the show by hurling insults at the crowd - reports the Ming Pao Daily News. The newspaper claims Chan told the crowd he was drunk and wanted to sing a duet with Lee. The Rush Hour star also attempted to conduct the band, but only managed to start and stop them several times."

Well, it isn't reportedly. He did jump on stage and try to sing a duet with Lee. It should be noted that Lee is Jackie Chan's son's mentor - so Jackie and Lee know each other well. Both Jackie and Jaycee have appologized many times already. --Kainaw ^(talk) 02:18, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Jackie Does not Know Kungfu?

I am considering removing the trivia section about his not knowing any kung fu and refusing to star with such martial artists as Donnie Yen and Jet Li. Apparently, if you've read his autobiography his fellow classmates (like Yuen Biao, Corey Yuen and Sammo Hung) trained all day long. Were they just dancing?

It is ironic that the very martial artists the person who made the edit referred to have been associated with Jackie Chan. He acted with Donnie Yen in Twins Effect 2 and Shanghai Knights and both Jackie and Jet Li have confirmed wanting to act together in a movie. Do I take out that snippet? Most takes for one scene claim?

In the trivia section, there is a claim that JC holds the record for taking 2900 takes for the shuttlecock scene in Dragon Lord. I've seen this claim on various pages on the internet (sometimes with a different number, such as "over 1000" listed), but is it really verified fact? Looking at the official Guinness World Records site, the actual record for number of takes is held by Chaplin (342) (see http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/content_pages/record.asp?recordid=50640) and Kubrick (127) for a scene with dialogue (see http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/content_pages/record.asp?recordid=54546). Expanding the article

I have added a little to the body of the article and separated the Early Years, 1980s and 1990s. I think to improve this article, it obviously requires more detail, and where possible we should try to stick to a timeline. For someone who has been in so many films, there is very little about his films in the biography sections. I'm not saying we shouild retread what is in the film articles, but noting when the better-known of these films were released and his achievements as the timeline progresses would round the article better. It doesn't mention his working for Shaw Brothers or Golden Harvest. It doesn't mention working for Lo Wei, or even how he learned fight coreography and film directing. If we can add a decent quantity of additional info, these decade sections would also benefit from relevant pics. Gram 14:15, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

In fact, looking at this article, it is quite ill-informed and disorganised in places. I'd suggest trimming down some of the trivia - is it really trivia, or is it something that can be expanded upon and included in a better section? Or is it unreferenced rumour or conjecture and needs to be removed?

There were 3 seperate references to Chan's alleged daughter. I cut out the following trivia line, as it is not referenced and sounds very dodgy:

• "He had plastic surgery on his eyes in 1976 to make him look more Western."

imdb has the plastic surgery trivia indicated also. It's actually pretty common in Hong Kong/Taiwan to have surgery to get a "double-eyelid." The purpose isn't necessary to look more western but to have the eye look bigger (which I guess some might claim to be a western trait). As this type of surgery is quite common amongst Asian people, is it worth including that Chan had it at all? Presumably many other Asian actors have also had it done - is it listed on their articles too? To point it out in this way makes it sound like Jackie did it for negative reasons, escaping his heritige or whoring himself to Western standards. If you really think it's worthwhile information, then it should either be noted in a simple statement like:

• Jackie had Asian blepharoplasty in 1976.

Otherwise, if Jackie has talked about it himself, his reasons should be quoted and cited, rather than assuming he had it done "to make him look more Western", which could be construed as offensive. 217.109.186.46 10:30, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

I agree that the revised method is neutral and a better presentation. I think it's a misconception that the surgery is to make one look more western and so the original entry is misleading. The purpose is cosmetic as larger eyes in general are perceived as more attractive in most cultures (ie, the panda bear effect). I think it's valid trivia as Jackie's having had the surgery is commonly cited in articles about it. Confucious 15:18, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
