Untitled[edit]

Jackie Earle Haley is the son of Haven Earl Haley, who was not a member of Jack Haley's family.

Year of birth[edit]

An editor is disputing Haley's birthdate, saying that it is August 10, 1897 rather than August 10, 1898 as we had. The cite is to Ancestry.com (specifically here which I can't access, not being a member -- apparently you have to subscribe to use that website, which makes it a poor ref. Whether it's reliable beyond that I don't know but I doubt it.

Most of the hits I have for Haley give August 10, 1898, IMDb for instance (which is not a reliable source), none of these are reliable sources and they could all be copying each other or from a wrong source. We need a proper obituary at least which I haven't found one.

If the birthdate is truly disputed, we need to address this, probably with "August 10, 1897[ref] or August 10, 1898[ref]" or something. For now I've just restored it to August 10, 1898 since that seems to be the consensus on the internet. Herostratus (talk) 19:30, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Verifiable Birth Year[edit]

The consensus on the internet is irrelevant (as Herostratus said above) if they got it from an unverified/incorrect source. The birth year of 1898 has been allowed on this site although that date of birth was never verified by a reference as well as the egregiously incorrect bio. An accurate date for Haley’s birth in 1898 would never be found since 1898 is incorrect.

An obituary is also not a reliable source either since actors in particular have been known to fabricate their age to advance their careers, which also can’t be used for verification. A free source for the birth date as well his corroborating WWI draft card have been link and should be more than sufficient in changing the birth date to the correct date.

Although not a ‘reliable’ source… I have given IMDb the same information and they have since changed the date to from 1898 to 1897 using the same source information.

Yeah seems reasonable. Herostratus (talk) 20:58, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

His gravestone gives 1898. Gravestones are not always accurate, but just adding this info to the discussion. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Jack_%26_Florence_Haley%27s_grave.JPG Thisdaytrivia (talk) 19:24, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

COD[edit]

Per the documentation for Template:Infobox person, cause of death should only be included when it is significant to the person's notability, not when it is simply related to old age or routine illness. Nikkimaria (talk) 16:30, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

have you check news he died? his cause of death was Heart attack. Ryan Pikachu (talk)

@Ryan Pikachu: I'm not disputing that. However, if you read what it says about cause of death here, you will find that even a sourced cause of death need not be included in the infobox if it's not significant to notability. Haley is not notable because he died of a heart attack, but rather what he accomplished while living; a heart attack is a routine cause of death for people of his age. Crafts and Haley[edit]

Found a reference to Jack Haley as a member of the vaudeville team Crafts and Haley. There is a recording on YouTube. Same person?— Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.221.196.142 (talk) 19:38, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
