Article Undersized

This article seems to be undersized, it lacks information and mostly shows technical data. I was expecting to see a mile long page but instead it was quite short, almost a stub. Why buy the right to the film (for 19 dollars)if he is not gonna do it, jj must have known when he signed up for this in 2007 that he was going to busy for a while so why buy the rights if he had no intention of doing it? I hope with all my heart he sells the rigths instead of deniying us the film we want to see with all our hearts, forget star trek, it was good but it doesn't compare to what DT could be. Lost opening theme

It says that he wrote the opening theme for Lost - but Lost has no opening theme. Any idea what was meant here? Luminifer (talk) 15:44, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Lost does have an opening theme. It plays over the title of "Lost" as it zooms in. It's a discordant, simplistic melody, but it's still the Lost theme. ashedmaniac (talk) 23:17, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Fictional universe?

JJ often uses many well established fictional brands in his work. Instead of getting sued by real life businesses, movies and other fictional media use fictional brands, and several of these brands have become well established. For example, Oceanic Airlines has been used in many different media for several decades, businesses called Acme have been used since the 1920s (think of the Looney Tunes own usage of it), Morley cigarettes for many decades (since the beginning of the 1960s with Dick Van Dyke and the original Twilight Zone), and beer brands Heisler, Penzburg, and Jekyll Island. Slusho and Apollo Bars are either previously used fictional brands, or ones made up at the moment and were reused when they were needed. The only fictional universe in play here is likely to be the Imaginationland of Hollywood type movies for the last century.

Comma Use

I've noticed in this article that whenever a film that Abrams made is discussed, there is an unnecessary comma before it. An example: "...Abrams also collaborated with some person to produce the film, Awesome Film Adventure."

The comma is wholly unnecessary, and actually obstructs the flow of the sentence. I'd be happy to go over the article later, but I thought I'd raise the issue now.Benkaplan42 (talk) 16:42, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

I understand your point, and in this example removing the comma is fine. But please be judicious; sometimes commas like the one above are quite commonly used, especially if the name of the film is in midsentence. Cresix (talk) 16:52, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Missing reference

Directing Star Wars

I don't want to participate in an edit war, but several editors have been writing that Abrams WILL be directing the next Star Wars film. However, while several news outlets (The Wrap was the first), have REPORTED this news, neither Abrams, Bad Robot, Lucasfilm, or Disney have confirmed it. Primogen (talk) 00:26, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

Need to rewrite career section

Read through the career section of the article. It sounds like something that has been pieced together by 100 different writers with various intents and tones. It is pretty terrible. Article mentions two "SFX Award"s. May not be noteworthy, because there is no SFX Award article, nor does the SFX (magazine) article (they give out the awards) even mention the SFX Awards. J.J. v J. J.

I've moved this article to J. J. Abrams in line with Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people), wherein it states that "For abbreviated names (if these are the most used) every abbreviation is followed by a point, and every point is followed by a single space". I disagree. And i am coming in some 40 months later on this discussion. Mr Abrams calls himself J.J. so who is Wikipedia to rename him? The naming conventions (people) section currently reads "There is no consensus for always using spaces between initials, neither for never using them. However, in most Wikipedia articles where the subject uses two consecutive initials, the space between initials is used; see Literary initials." The catch to that is the periods make it non-consecutive initials. I realise this is now a widespread matter but really my take on it is that no Manual Of Style should be renaming a person as it then becomes not the name they are known by but what the respective Manual Of Style wants them to be known as. Right now i have been working on turning the Alias episode lists into {{Episode list/sublist|List of Alias episodes}} and what a surprise, all of the writing and directing credits for J.J. that i have so far come across read as [[J. J. Abrams|J.J. Abrams]] so clearly there are other people here who disagree with this move but never saw this section to comment.
On a personal level, I actually go by my initials in some circumstance and should i ever end up being notable and have a WP article the last thing i would want is WP to rename me. I would be reverting all edits that did such until i was blocked for disruption because consensus overrode my name. Frequent Casting

This section seems overdone and perhaps completely unnecessary, particularly the chart itself. In reality, only two of the 12 actors mentioned have appeared in more than two of Abrams' projects. I think this point could be made in a brief mention, rather than a whole section with a chart. --Johnsemlak (talk) 12:08, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, particularly you can see that Rosanna Arquette is only in two movies, and she is the only one on the chart who was in "Gone Fishin'", meaning that the "Gone Fishin'" column was included only because an actor who was in two of his films was in it. I suggest at the very least axing the chart, and possibly the entire section. (Not logged in on this computer, but I'm Paul Ganssle 24.7.67.75 (talk) 05:08, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Agree, axe the chart. There's a difference between noting an actor appears, and assigning a meaning to it. There could be a variety of reasons, an obvious one that is often stated in DVD commentaries is that a director is familiar and comfortable with an artist's work. I.e., that they are a known quantity. That, in itself, doesn't even particularly qualify as trivia. But it isn't necessarily the case that level of comfort has anything to do with it. It could be, for example, that the actor was under contract. Or that the director/producer/whoever insisted on using the actor. Or that the actor agrees to work for a very reasonable salary. 2010's Section of Career Needs Reworking

Going off of what user Bottre73 said in an earlier section, this section of Abrams' career recap needs to be reworked. It's overly excessive and focuses too much on the polarizing reactions towards Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to the point where it all feels cluttered and even a bit one-sided as if it was written with a specific agenda. The Wikipedia pages for these films already cover all those controversies.

Marcia Lucas

In 2021 Lucas ex-wife Marcia Lucas, whom earned an Oscar for her editing of the 1977 original film and edited the other Original Trilogy films, was highly negative towards Abrams Abrams by stating he ¨did not have a clue about the franchise¨, and calling his storyline "terrible". This feels shoehorned in to push a certain POV. The emphasis on Marcia Lucas' role in the original trilogy seems to be here to make her criticism sound like it's coming from a place of authority. Does this mean JJ Abrams' article should include the criticism of EVERYBODY who worked on a previous Star Wars film? I don't think so.
