untitled[edit]

The addition of new information regarding the current leaders of the Ezzedeen-al-qassam brigades was deleted yesterday because there was no references as well as spelling and grammar mistakes.

So, today, I added references to the new part. As for grammar and spelling mistakes, I ask for the help of other users since english is not my first language.

Hey, the article is looking pretty good, you could do with citing references (I've added {{fact}} to some of the more bold claims) and it could do with toning down some of the editorialising unless you are going to provide specific references, I've removed words like "surprisingly", "seemed" etc. Let me know if you need any more feedback. - FrancisTyers 18:52, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I have to mention that the other updates today are from me, user Joojoo, but I was not logged in. Just to summarize, I added new information, removed irrelevant things and added some subtitles. I see that there is still much work to do to edit the presentation. I would also like, eventually, to change the name of the article for "Ezzedden-Al-Qassam Brigades"
Why not to "Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades". That's how we spell the name of the person they're named after, and it's a better transliteration too. Arre 10:33, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The operations section needs significant work. I corrected the paragraph at the end since it was not just biased, but misattributing the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.186.180.66 (talk) 20:17, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Current Leader[edit]

"The current leader of the brigades, Mohammed Deif, remains at large and is said to have survived at least five assassination attempts [5]." According to the article about Mohammed Deif, he was captured in Egypt in 2006. And as a quadrupole amputee, even if he was released by Egypt it is very unlikely that he would remain the leader of this group. Does anyone have more recent information? Товарищ (talk) 01:13, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

@Товарищ way out of date, he's alive with all his limbs, IDF tried to kill him in 2014 and missed but did kill his wife and kids. Irtapil (talk) 09:26, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Name change[edit]

As I said above some time ago, this article is improperly named. Right now, it is a bad transliteration of a person's name, and should be a redirect to him (Izz ad-Din al-Qassam). A more reasonable transliteration is Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, and regardless of transliteration, "brigades" must be in there. So that should be the name of this article. I can't imagine there's anyone who would oppose this, but I need help with the actual move. Arre 12:05, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Qassam brigades.jpg[edit]

Image:Qassam brigades.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

bias?[edit]

This article seems to be biased toward the palestinians

"The group's strength and its ability to carry out complex and lethal attacks surprised many observers"

"The brigades can count on a huge pool of individuals seeking to join its ranks, an important logistical organization which supplies the militants with weapons smuggled in Rafah using tunnels, and talented engineers who provide the fighters with homemade weapons such as the al-Bana, the Batar, the Yasin and the Qassam rocket."

"talented" engineers? according to whom? needs sources

  • The Wikipedia article List of terrorist incidents is not a reliable source for the claims in this article. The page relies largely on the Jewish Virtual Library as a reference and this source is not reliable. It attributes incidents to a specific group when more than one group claims responsibility and it also attributes some incidents to Hamas when the Israeli government attributes the same incident to a different group. Likewise the ADL is not a RS for claims of this nature for the same reasons.
  • Groups have "claimed" to be responsible. We can not specifically say "a Hamas bomber" when it is only an unsupported claim or when more than one group claims responsibility. We can attribute it: "Hamas and (group X) claimed responsibility." If it is undisputed that Hamas is responsible (bomber is a known member etc) then it can say "a Hamas bomber".
  • The section title. We should not use the word "terrorist" in headers per WP:W2W and WP:NPOV (We do not use the term for Israeli attacks). Everyone knows a suicide attack is terrorism. Articles mention terrorism in the body.
  • I'm going through the list adding refs and correcting text. It is dissapointing to see it reverted to an incorrect version with an unreliable source.
  • Numbers under 11 are written in full. For example, 5 = five and 10 = ten. Wayne (talk) 09:22, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Terror" attacks[edit]

The phrase "terror attacks" is POV and should be removed by AnkhMorpork promptly to avoid an edit war (in light of his/her revert of an IP user who just removed the term). "Attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians alike" suffices and is not in violation of NPOV. See also WP:TERRORIST and WP:AVOID. --Al Ameer son (talk) 18:11, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. And the idea that attacking soldiers of an occupying power is "terrorism" is absurd. nableezy - 18:20, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Foundation?[edit]

In the old infobox it says 1984, in other part of the article December 1987, in other sources 1991...for that I added the contradiction tag until its resolved.--HCPUNXKID (talk) 04:30, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Freedom fighting[edit]

Is there any possibility that an unbiased wikipedia considers the Palestinians' to have "freedom fighting" groups, like this one? or in this world, only what Isr.\Usa media says, is what true!? At least "according to so many palestinians"(source) hamas and its military wing is part of palestinian resistance aimed to "freedom" along the history!

In history and present, there has been always occupation and freedom fighting, in this specific case (Wonder why!!) is terrorism! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Schmiegestestor (talkcontribs) 09:31, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup[edit]

Cleanup / POV check of the history may help: unexplained removals / unsourced additions on Hamas and Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades (and related). Edits from User:Marco 2 en need further scrutiny, including those incorrectly marked as minor. Widefox; talk 10:01, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

ok, i will edit every single tiny word and add the correct sources. and delete all the unPOV sources. thanks. Marco 2 en (talk) 10:28, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, don't understand. What does unPOV mean? Best to discuss here first, as this article is under DS (as you are aware). Widefox; talk 18:16, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Just leaving my two cents here, not a frequent editor or commenter, but I do frequently read Wikipedia articles and I am known to "fall into a wiki hole." I'm only about 1/3 of the way through this article and it is possibly the most biased Wikipedia article I've ever seen. It clearly reflects an Israeli slant not just in the debatable source of "facts" cited, but also in the basic selection of content/topics to be covered. For example, the "Operation and Activities" section starts with a denunciation of the use of "human shields" - without bothering to even establish (and provide sources establishing) the al-Qassam Brigades' use of human shields as an operational tactic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:37EB:5220:89F8:9CFB:2C7D:2657 (talk) 23:27, 20 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

External links[edit]

The external links section currently lists two Israel Defense Forces sites (and only that). The closest thing to an official webpage here, if any, would be hamas.ps. The official IDF website is a great external link for the Israel Defense Forces article but there is no reason to include it here (see Wikipedia:External links). It might be included as a reference to support some IDF official statement though. --MarioGom (talk) 18:56, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Algeria hosted successive meetings after announcing an initiative for reconciliation between the Palestinian factions in December 2021. about the Opponents there is "salafists" and it's a violation on the Islamic religion, because Salafism is a name for an approach that calls for understanding the Book and the Sunnah by understanding the predecessor of the nation, adopting the approach, and the work of the Prophet Muhammad, his companions, the followers, and the followers of the followers, as it represents the approach of Islam, and adhering to taking the rulings from the book (the Qur’an) of God, and what is authentic from the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad, and it moves away from all inputs Alien from the spirit of Islam and its teachings, and adherence to what was transmitted from the predecessors., but I think you mean ISIS members, given that ISIS threatened Hamas before. Major settlement?[edit]

See this paragraph from the article, emphasis mine:

"The forces are mainly divided into five brigades divided geographically. Each brigade is divided into multiple battalions with 30 total battalions. Each battalion is responsible for major settlement although they may be relocated and change their areas of responsibility during conflicts."

Should this be "Each battalion is responsible for a major settlement"?

If so, whose settlements: In the Gaza Strip? The Occupied Territories overall? Something else?

I think UtoD added this content. Can you explain what you meant or edit the passage in the article so it is clearer please? FeralOink (talk) 16:56, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This needs a section about propaganda[edit]

Here's some ideas. (in no particular order) Some of this is a bit "original resesrch" or "synthesis", but I cannot possibly be the only one who's noticed this? There must be sources where people have already described these things?

  • The Al Qassam Military Chior is a thing that exists
  • Hamas & Al Qassam propaganda incompatible with Islamic fundamentalism
  • most prominently in the use of music that features musical instruments
  • also in artistic depictions of the human form
  • They had a political in Gaza 14 December 2022 that looked more Iron Maiden than ISIS (But also a bit BJP rally)
  • Military Parades (there's mountains of footage of this on YouTube posted by Associated Press and others) I presume Hamas did these? But at this moment I can only recall seeing PIJ, PFLP, etc.
  • Videos
  • a few specific types of video ?
  • October 7 footage
  • The contrast between the rumours about what the 7 October footage shows and what's actually there
  • go pro
  • red triangle videos
  • highly produced shorts that I strongly suspect these are made in Lebanon? But I can't find any OSINT type people even trying to geolocwte them
  • highly visual / trans lingual
  • get republished by news media
  • difference in what's shown by Arabic vs English networks, even for broadcasters like TRT and Al Jazeera that do both
e.g. the Mohamed Deif speech announcing Al Aqsa Flood
11 minute original in Arabic
8 minutes published by Al Jazeera Arabic
about one minute translated by AJ English
  • telegram
  • blocked on some platforms
  • other social media

This could be a whole article, but let's srart it as a section here and then split it off if it grows? Irtapil (talk) 10:06, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Military nature[edit]

In my opinion, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades have all the features of a military organisation: they are an armed force, with a definite hierarchy, they do have a plurality of signs of recognition worn as uniform, they are the de facto standing military organisation of a de facto state (mostly Gaza Strip). --Mach1988 (talk) 11:15, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

As it happens, the sources in the lead all support "military wing", not "paramilitary" anything, so not sure where that really came from in the first place. Iskandar323 (talk) 10:00, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
