From teh section on classification: "(...) but also some striking contrasts, especially in the area of phonology". Well, is that a reason to assume that it is unrelated to other Chukotko-Kamchatkan languages? When language diverge, the phonology is the first thing to alter. Compare English, Dutch and Swedish, three languages with a totally different phonology. Or compare Welsh, German, Italian and Polish. If you took phonology as a major criterion for language classification it would almost exclede the possibility that these languages are even distantly related. isolate?[edit]

Volodin (1976, 1990) treats it as an isolate, but has anyone else followed? How has his proposal been reviewed? — kwami (talk) 07:23, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dialects[edit]

The article Chukotko-Kamchatkan languages says that Itelmen "includes the Ukä and Sedanka dialects." The "Chukotko-Kamchatkan languages" section of List of numbers in various languages has entries for "West" and "South" Itelmen. Are these the aforementioned dialects? If so, which is which?
