Type?[edit]

Is she a Pre-dreadnought battleship or an Ironclad battleship (which actually redirects to Ironclad warship)? Different terms are used in the ship articles and the class article. On a side point it seems slightly odd to me that the article is named Italian ironclad Sicilia but the ironclad article itself is at Ironclad warship... Shouldn't that be moved to just Ironclad (or Ironclad (warship))? I'm not an expert but I've never heard ironclads referred to as ironclad warships. Otherwise this article should probably be Italian ironclad warship Sicilia? (which sounds silly) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.8.46.142 (talk) 21:41, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Terminology is fluid, especially during the period these ships were built. Historians generally label the British Royal Sovereigns (or the subsequent Majestics) as the first "pre-dreadnoughts", and these ships predate them. The Re Umbertos are basically modified Admiral-class ironclads with less armor. The class article here will be reworked shortly (you might have noticed that I've recently rewritten all three ship articles), which should clear up the discrepancies.

The article is at Ironclad warship (presumably) to make it more obvious to non experts, and to disambiguate it from other articles that have the same name. As for this title, the article should be kept as is, since the naming conventions state that types should be as simple as possible. Parsecboy (talk) 23:38, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
