Layout as of September 2013[edit]

Page needs to be improved to meet Manual of Style standards per MOS:DABENTRY which reads:

"Include exactly one navigable (blue) link to efficiently guide readers to the most relevant article for that use of the ambiguous term. Do not wikilink any other words in the line."

Time to stop the edit war on this[edit]

The purpose of a disambiguation page is to disambiguate. Muddling what dialect customarily and quite precisely means when speaking of the Italian linguistic situation defeats the main purpose of disambiguation. Yes, the purpose is to disambiguate. But you're just plain wrong about the situation and so how it can do that. As I've said a zillion times, these pages already say that these speech varieties are regularly called dialects. Calling everything dialects all the time, even though, as Lepschy&Lepschy say, some are as different from Italian as English, is just obscuring the situation to the average reader. Calling speech varieties "dialects" whenever it suits you is not precise usage. For clarity, multiple mutually unintelligible speech varieties should be called languages, and it just does not matter if there is dialect continuum, nor if there is a register continuum, the latter illustrated by L&L for the case of Venetian. --JorisvS (talk) 07:39, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Keep current text. Have to agree with JorisvS. For example, let the reader figure out the Tuscany dialector whatever predates something, that kind of thing is not appropriate for a disamb page. As a random person coming to this RFC - I'd like to know the regional or other dialects, and look at those pages.Patriot1010 (talk) 06:33, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Italian dialects as varieties of Italian[edit]
