Image[edit]

Does anyone have another image which shows a full Israir jet to work alongside the current one? (Flymeoutofhere 10:10, 7 May 2006 (UTC))[reply]

There are few here, though they are copyrighted.

Do you know of any uncopyrighted ones? (Flymeoutofhere 10:56, 7 May 2006 (UTC))[reply]

GA review comments[edit]

A few comments:

  • The fair use image of the logo has no source.
Sorted--Flymeoutofhere 18:01, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Citations need to be placed according to WP:CITE, e.g. move ref [2], [7].

  • Spell check required e.g. "desription", "controversey"
Sorted--Flymeoutofhere 18:01, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Title is Israir while lead & fleet section calls the company Israir Airlines, which is correct?
Sorted- moved page and continue spelling throughout-Flymeoutofhere 18:01, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • "..Kanfei HaEmek, Valley Wings.." - forgive my ignorance, is Valley Wings the translation from the Hebrew? It's not clear.
Sorted--Flymeoutofhere 18:01, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Wikilink "charter"
Linked--Flymeoutofhere 18:01, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Why are Sky-Torah scrolls innovative? It's not clear to the non-expert.
Point taken--Flymeoutofhere 18:01, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • "This is a first for any Israeli airline and was seen by many as a means to attract many Haredi passengers to the airline at a time when they were showing great dissatisfaction with arch-rival, El Al, following their flying of aircraft over the Shabbat." - this is unreferenced and could read as original research.
Added another citation--Flymeoutofhere 18:01, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • The business history and incident history are currently interleaved and reads a little bit awkwardly. I would consider moving the incidents into their own section.
Split--Flymeoutofhere 18:01, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • No indication of the number of passengers carried per year.
Struggle to find...?--Flymeoutofhere 18:01, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • "In May 2007, an Israir aircraft on a test flight was almost shot down by Israeli F-16 jets after it entered a demarcation zone where airlines are expected to identify themselves.[8] Just one month later, the airline sparked controversey once again when a passenger announced he was filing a lawsuit against the airline for misadvertising the legroom they offered on their aircraft.[9] Later that month, on 23 May,..." firstly we're in May, then we're one month later (so June?) and then "...later that month..." we're back in May again...
  • "...at a Berlin airport following smoke build up in the cabin on approach at Berlin-Schonefeld International Airport." - was the "Berlin airport" a different one from Schoenfeld? A bit confusing.
Fixed in split--Flymeoutofhere 18:01, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • While the destinations are covered in another article, it would be useful to have an overview here.
  • The table looks pretty awkward on my browser (Firefox) - the notes column could be widened, the (+3 on order) could go in the notes column, generally external links within the article are discouraged, why are the passengers entries left blank for everything beside the A320?
Is that better-Im using IE--Flymeoutofhere 18:09, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • "...to operate scheduled service on ..." either "to operate scheduled services on..." or "to operate scheduled services on... "
Sorry-I dont understand--Flymeoutofhere 18:09, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ref [11] doesn't work for me, I get plenty of adverts and no article, so you'll need another reference.
Done--Flymeoutofhere 18:39, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • "...The company was said to be in talks with Boeing over the 787 model...." - not cited, is this original research?
Done--Flymeoutofhere 18:39, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm putting the GA on hold, I know some of these comments don't necessarily apply to the GA criteria specifically but it's a very short article and I believe the comments should be addressed before I'd be happy giving it the green light. The Rambling Man 16:33, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the comments - I think most have been addressed--Flymeoutofhere 18:39, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comments on the comments[edit]

Cool, good job. Further comments:

  • The fair use rationales should be applied to the newly moved page (so Israir Airlines rather than just plain Israir) - I know the redirects work but let's just get it specific.
Done - I think--Flymeoutofhere 08:15, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Still unclear to the non-expert what Sky-Torah means. Perhaps a short clarification would be good.
Done--Flymeoutofhere 08:15, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Later on this year,..." - I'd be specific, i.e. later on in 2007...
Done--Flymeoutofhere 08:15, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Still some differences in referring to the airline as Israir or Israir Airlines.
Sorted out I think - also put in first line - usually known as - Israir - also moved Destinations page-Flymeoutofhere 08:15, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Should the subpage now redirect to Israir Airlines destinations?
As above!--Flymeoutofhere 08:15, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nearly there... The Rambling Man 23:05, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA pass[edit]

Hey, good work. Following the implementation of all my suggestions, I'm glad to promote to good article. All the best. The Rambling Man 10:01, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Second Largest Airline[edit]

I am posting this on Arkia Israel Airlines as well. It seems this article and Arkia both claim to be Israel's second largest airline. Does anyone know which is correct? HebrewHammerTime 15:19, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it depends how you define second largest. Arkia has a larger fleet but Israir has more larger planes so could possibly carry more. I really dont know--Flymeoutofhere 17:47, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is the third largest at least by aircraft quantity and destinations. The sources originally brought are entirely unreliable. Unfortunately this is one more blunder (though harmless) the airline has got itself into. I took the liberty to rectify. 77.126.86.112 (talk) 23:24, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

767[edit]

Someone removed the 767 that was leased by Icelandair and flies between JFK and TLV. Israir still flies this route, but now there is nothing in the article to say which aircraft it is. Also, where is the support to say that the aircraft is now with Varig? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.228.12.254 (talk) 21:05, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I did not see that this leased B.767 (Reg'd TF-FIC) had been removed from the table before I added it, but I guess that lacking information may be a reason for this. But I checked who flew the A/C, to which destinations etc. Today, Israir flew its 6H101 (TLV-JFK) as shown by the FlightStats Flight Tracker and the airline planner itself. There are other destinations, like Bangkok - Suvarnabhumi, Milan-Malpensa and you can find other recent spottings on other airports.
One thing is true: the airline is not cooperative at all when you try to get more information, and their (not really informative) website seems to be restricted to few browsers… — Kanġi Oĥanko (talk) 23:06, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA Reassessment[edit]

This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Israir Airlines/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

This article is being reviewed as part of the WikiProject Good Articles. We're doing Sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria. This article was awarded GA-status back in 2007 and the GA requirements have been "tightened up", so I will be assessing the article to ensure that it is still compliant. Pyrotec (talk) 17:21, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Initial comments[edit]

  • History -
  • Ref 5 is a broken web link (citation for the Ganden Group).
  • The claim about ownership by the Ganden Group is also out of date. This link ([1]) indicates that it was sold in 2009 to another company, but with some common directorships.

Pyrotec (talk) 19:22, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • The statement "Israir Airlines was established in 1989 as Kanfei HaEmek (Valley Wings), before changing its name to Israir Airlines in 1996" is unreferenced.
  • Ref 9 is a broken web link.
  • Ref 10 confirms that passenger filing a lawsuit, but it does not provide any evidence to support the, possibly POV, comment "Israir sparked controversy once again".
  • Ref 11 confirms that Israir was applying for designated carrier status on various routes, but not the statement: "In early 2008, when restrictions were lifted on Israeli airlines destinations," Furthermore, there is no mention in the article of any restrictions on Israeli airlines destinations.
  • Destinations -

At this point I'm put the assessment On Hold for rectification. Pyrotec (talk) 19:48, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This article is being delisted, as it is no longer compliant with WP:WIAGA. The article can be resubmited to WP:GAN once it has been brought up to standard. Pyrotec (talk) 17:41, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fleet[edit]

The table in the "fleet" paragraph needs its mathematics revisited. Also, the "body" text mentions an A330 which is absent from the same table. Anyone know the facts? TIA, Jan olieslagers (talk) 11:50, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 7 October 2023[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved (non-admin closure). Unopposed for several weeks. Jenks24 (talk) 10:51, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

– We stick with the most commonly used name (dedicated guideline at WP:COMMONNAME) and in this case, even mentioned by the article in the leading paragraph, it is Israir and not Israir Airlines. The airline brands itself too as simply Israir. Most other wikis too have this article as "Israir" and not "Israir Airlines".
