Merge of Isabel Briggs Myers & Katharine Cook Briggs[edit]

There is no sign of notability on the mother (other than confusion with Katherine Mary Briggs) after 16 months. If evidence of sufficient notability to justify a separate article emerges, on can be created to replace the rdr that will be left after the merge.

All that seems fair enough to me - I've removed the self-directing link to he mother's name, since it just seems misleading when there's no page there.--Quywompka 13:57, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Psychologist?[edit]

IMO, there is no question that (since it is for stub sorting purposes), she deserves a "psychologist stub" tag.

However, at Category:Psychologists we find

A psychologist is a practitioner of psychology. The American Psychological Association has issued a guideline that only those who hold a Ph.D. or Psy.D. degree in psychology or a closely related field should call themselves "psychologists."

(BTW IMO that overlooks the recognized 19th-century founders of the field, but that is before her time.) She seems to have made recognized contributions to the field, but that and a BA in poli sci makes you, well, a non-notable political scientist.

But IMO her bio does pertain to Category:Psychology
--Jerzyt 01:40, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Isabel Myers was most decidedly not a psychologist. In the preface to "Gifts Differing," her son Peter B. Myers writes, "Isabel Myers, on the other hand, while not trained as a psychologist, devoted the entire second half of her life to interpreting and adapting Jung's theory..." (page xii). She was, as the article states, a psychological theorist. I removed the "psychologist" tags. ThreeOfCups (talk) 04:18, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think that this mother/daughter team is remarkable, and seeing ThreeOfCups' writing above, I really wonder what a psychologist is--even though my partner will licensed soon. --John Bessa (talk) 19:30, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This page is the same as Katharine Cook Briggs.[edit]

They both have the same DOB and died on the same day. 69.255.37.146 03:52, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Where did she live?[edit]

Poorly referenced statement removed[edit]

I have removed the sentence tacked on to the lead: "Myers was an INFP". It is referenced to a dubious source advertising a book [1] and does not mention her name at all. Voceditenore (talk) 08:02, 30 March 2012 (UTC) I would propose either removing or explaining the other uses of 4 letter Myers Briggs codes in the article. They are of value for insiders but are obscure for the general public. Laurence Cuffe (talk) 21:37, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Early Life[edit]

There is currently not a lot of information regarding Isabel's early life and education. To improve this article, I suggest adding more about her background and how she grew up. The article mentions her alma matter, Swarthmore College, but that is the extent to the discussion on her college years. There is no why or how she got into the psychology of personality, so this would also be a great addition to the article. Akubiak (talk) 00:02, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Novels[edit]

In the category section at the end of this article, she is put in the category "American women novelists". Should her works of fiction be put in the sub-section of this article sub-titled "Publications"? Vorbee (talk) 16:41, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Type on the M.B.T.I.[edit]

Does any one know which MBTI type Isabel Briggs Myers claimed she was? If so, this would certainly make an interesting addition to the article. Vorbee (talk) 16:43, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism of the test[edit]

In this article the test is portrayed as positive and it is not mentioned that in modern psychology it is seen as pseudoscientific as can be read in the wikipedia article about the test. This should be mentioned. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.246.128.82 (talk) 21:13, 26 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
