I was browsing Wikipedia, and found there was nothing on Irish Flute, so I wrote a short paragraph on it. However, I'm not qualified to write a complete article. Andrew Plett

Some of the list is a little off: Micho Russell is a tin whistle player, not a flute player. And thought James Galway is a flute player from Ireland, he isn't an Irish flute player - he plays classical music on a Boehm flute. I would also include Cathal McConnell on the list of influential players - he was all-Ireland champion, had a lengthy recording career both as a solo artist and as a member of the Boys of the Lough, and continues to perform and record. Adding to wikiproject Irish music - I think the content is more start-level than stub-level, but calling it a Stub for the moment since it's just one big section - formatting should bump it up quality level.Dereksmootz (talk) 13:45, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

I've overhauled the article, splitting it into sections. I want to put something like the following in the "Terminology" section as soon as I find a reference for it:

The terms "wooden flute", "simple system flute", or simply "flute" used within the context of Irish Traditonal Music typically refer to the Irish flute. In this context, a Western concert flute is typically described as a "silver flute" or "classical flute".

I also intend to split the "Ornamentation" section out of the tin whistle article, making it into "Irish Wind Instrument Ornamentation" article that can serve for whistle, flutes and Uilleann pipes. I intend the "Playing technique" section of this article as a placeholder for that change.Dereksmootz (talk) 16:43, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Finding several false statements in the Styles section/s I correct them, only on the next visit finding the page reverted by some person with the name 'materialscientist'. Let me be clear here, I am an Irish born and trained Traditional Musician. My reference to a performance in my edit is accurate and correct, not an error. Instead of telling the reader what I 'think' is the Roscommon Style of Irish Flute performance, I example it and let them make their own minds up. As for the 'hack' fiddling with the incorrect 'Sligo' entry, I simply delete the entire section in order to provide to 'materialscientist' the opportunity to redo it, but removing the performer 'Matt Molloy' from it. The reasoning here is as follows. I attended Irish 'High School' along with Matt, so I know him to be a Roscommon man, his family then living in Ballahadereen Co Roscommon. As well his business and home, today, is in Co Mayo. Neither of these are in Co Sligo. Ergo Matt Molloy was, and still is a Rosocmmon Flautist. I consider further abuse of the truth by 'materialscientist' grounds for action of whatever kind is necessary to restrain his/her blatant, and persistent, attempts to publish falsehood about my native culture. @Makadan: You were reverted by Materialscientist because you removed cited content and your edits do not conform to our editing guidelines.
