Editing Question[edit]

A user has put in a paragraph regarding Irina's skating in general. I moved it to the top of the article but feel that we should remove it. It really doesn't have anything that hasn't been mentioned elsewhere in the article. Also it's a bit biased and seems to gush out too much adoration for Irina. Please respond on my talk page about your suggestions on what should be done.

My edits[edit]

1) Results from over a year ago are no longer recent.

2) The competitions I removed are not notable competitions. Notable competitions are things like Grand Prix of Figure Skating events or B-internationals such as the Finlandia Trophy, not stuff like Keri Lotion challenge or whatever. The Marshalls World Cup, etc, are made for tv events that have no bearing whatsoever on world standing and don't matter at all. They may have an ISU sanction, but that doesn't make them actual competitions.

Oh, and thanks for reverting the entire thing, since "turned pro" is not actually part of the infobox, but "retired" is, and the term double-foot Biellmann sounds very wrong (and, btw, Biellmann is a name, so it's capitalized). Double foot tends to have an entirely different meaning when it comes to skating. Her ISU bio calls it a double Biellmann-spin with foot change, which is what it is. And there's nothing wrong with asking for references for saying she was the first to do something and that she's one of the most successful Russian female skaters in history.

Please tell me in what universe this is vandalism. Kolindigo 06:25, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize, I didn't mean to revert everything you edited, but I can undo those later.
Well, yes, they are from events held over a year ago, but they are still Slutskaya's "most recent" results. She hasn't competed since, but she hasn't announced her retirement yet either, so it's presumed she is still active for the time being. The scores are her own most recent results until she competes again, or retires.
Ok, I can understand removing the "cheesefests" from the Records and achievements section, but I don't understand the excessive removal of all the results of those events from her Other Events table, which is seperate from the Major Events table anyways. Just because someone didn't find those events prestigous enough doesn't mean they weren't real competitions with legitimate results. We're trying to build a complete biography here, which means including the results of competitions throughout Slutskaya's career. Some enthusiasts might even say that her Keri Lotion Classic program was one of her most beautiful ever (sorry, will I need a source for that too? ^_^), which I think deserves a sentence written about its outcome on the podium.
One last minor thing; WP:LINKSPAM defines link spam as "Adding external links to an article or user page for the purpose of promoting a website or a product is not allowed, and is considered to be spam." I don't think they fall into this category, and I don't see the harm of leaving those external links in the article, but I'll remove them anyways because of their unimportance.
I really hate when there are conflicts, and I'm sorry for calling your good-faith edits "bordering on vandalism". I hope we can all work together on good terms. Byxbee 03:21, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dubious, Discuss, in Pronounciation[edit]

There is a tag of dubious attached to the pronounciation key. Could someone explain what the issue is? Blowfish (talk) 03:39, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure. Kwamikagami (talk · contribs) tagged it back in August; the edit summary was "rd. to IPA keys & fix per Wikipedia conventions (see IPA link) using AWB". —C.Fred (talk) 04:43, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Her parents[edit]

This sentence needs to be rephrased: "Slutskaya was born in 1979 in Moscow, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union, the only child of a Russian mother and Jewish father." Otherwise it sounds as though you're implying that Jews can't be Russian.--98.114.178.205 (talk) 21:46, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
