Ranking peak

Hello, I fixed our highest ranking. It said our peak was at #13, but it was 17. --69.197.215.119 23:35, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Well right now it's at 15

Thanks all.--Sina 15:29, 20 July 2005 (UTC)

Spelling and grammar

I fixed two minor spelling mistakes: there (place) - poss. their. And everywere to everywhere. The article could use more commas and apostrophes, and less run-on sentences. But that's just my stylistic opinion. Also might consider some Farsi, i.e. تيمِ ملّى. It'd be nice to know what melli means too. I also added the official IRIFF link, though it is currently under construction. Khirad 04:34, 9 September 2005 (UTC)

away kit

isn't the aways kit all red?

All photos on front page of iriff.ir are of a team in white; they can't "aways" wear red, there might be a colour clash. Kevin McE 11:24, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

This Kevin guy is an idiot. The original poster asked if the away kit (ie not the home kit) is red, he did not misspell always as you thought he did. In answer to the original posters question, yes the away kit is red. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.192.70.224 (talk) 21:45, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

World Cup 2002

I have restored the small piece about the riots in 2001 as they are directly related to the team. Of course football has its political aspects and this should be included. Yes it really needs a separate page which goes into the struggles of Iranian football fans in more detail, and I hope to do some more work on that presently.Harrypotter (talk) 00:38, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

That section needs to be sourced better. Some of the sections written are rumors and should be treated as such. Also the source is really hard to find online to read and verify. I am saying this because after the Iran-Bahrain match rumors were flying left and right but most of it was untrue. Nokhodi (talk) 01:21, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Please read WP:UNDUEWEIGHT, this is an encyclopedia page on a soccer team, not a personal journal for political opinion. --Kurdo777 (talk) 01:50, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

I have read WP:UNDUEWEIGHT, and I must admit I do not understand why you mention it. unnily enough I know what a personal journal is, and the fact that the riots occurred is not a personal opinion, but reality - which should be mentioned on a page concerning the Iran national football team as the riots occurred in relation to the matches. As theadditional material neither condoned nor condemned the riots, I think you'll find you have dealt with this inappropriately. The point raised by Nokhodi is much more cogent. Shah-Shuja quotes two papers Kayhan Weekly and Mojahed, the former a London based monarchist paper, and the later is the paper of Mojahedin-e Khalq which is a Muslim group. I have reproduced the references. As for the riots being political or not, Younesi went on record saying they were not political, so that would be a matter of opinion. However as the material included simply records what happened providing relevant sources, I feel this has made the article much better - thanks for your help on this. It would be good to have an article on the riots themselves, but it would be good to have a broader range of sources for that though. Harrypotter (talk) 08:51, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
It's undo weight, and a fringe political theory, written in a POV fashion. This is a sport page, not a political journal.--Kurdo777 (talk) 09:26, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
Excuse me, but please do not continue to remove relevant material until you have tried to gain consensus. In what way is stating that these riots occurred a fringe political theory. They are historic events which occurred directly in relation to the activities of the Iran national football team. That is what this page is, not a sports journal. If you what is included is POV, then please try and include material which you think would make it more balanced. I shall not re-include the material just now, but will return to this presently.Harrypotter (talk) 09:40, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
1. Your information poorly sourced, from fringe sources, and you're giving it undo weight 2. Your info is POVish with POV terms like "Mullahs", "regime" etc. 3, This is sport page, not a POV-fork for political opinions and rumors 4. You are the one who needs consensus, when you're adding controversial poorly sourced material. 5. I suggest that you create a page called "soccer unrest in Iran" or "soccer riots in Iran" and add all these info there, this is not the place for it. --Kurdo777 (talk) 09:46, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
To respond to your points:
1) I am quite happy to suplement it with other reports (e.g. the BBC. Your suggestion that undue wait is being given this, is spurious as explained above.
2) For stylistic reasons I included terms such as "authorities", "government" and "regime" variously. I do not see why you regard regime as a POV term. If you feel the use of the term "mullah" was derogatory, then that can be simply changed to "Islamic clerics". Either way the correct way to deal with this is improve the article by editing the relevant words.
3) This is not a sports wiki, but wikipedia. Clearly the organisation of teams based on "nationality" is highly political. There was recently a dispute in London broadcast on BBC Radio when the German Ambasador claimed that the Czechs had never beaten the Germans. The Czech Ambassador reminded him of the Euro76 cup final. Ah, the wily German Ambassador replied, that was a team composed of both Czechs and Slovaks against a team drawn from just one section of Germany. Look how these issues have led to the formation of Nouvelle Fédération-Board, or the track record of Sápmi national football team.
4) I never imagined any one find such bald statement of fact controversial. When asked, further sources were easily provided.
5) Obviously we both share a dream of such a page, and indeed one day we may working side by side on such a page, but I feel it would be better to make some headway on the brief summary appropriate to this page. For instance we have no account of the attendance of women football fans, albeit Irish people women, at the Iran v Ireland UEFA / AFC Intercontinental Play-off, held on:
November 15, 2001, Tehran, Iran -  Iran 1 - 0 Republic of Ireland ,
This was the first attendance of women at a football match since 1979.
I feel sure your positive participation about a topic you clearly feel quite passionate about is only round the corner!Harrypotter (talk) 14:43, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
Sources linked to MKO (Mojaehdin) can not be considered as neutral or accurate. They always make absurd claims, such as 200,000 people showing up for their speaking events and the likes. I was in Iran during the Iran-Bahrain match and besides a few broken windows from the usual hooligans, nothing really happened.Nokhodi (talk) 19:54, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
I agree it would be folly to rely only MKO sources, which is why more than one source is supplied. Student Movement Coordination Committee for Democracy in Iran of course also have a an interesting viewpoint. Your first hand observations are interesting, but can hardly be seen as conclusive. As the riots were reported to happen in so many different places, the fact that it even occurred in your neighbourhood shows how widespread it must have been!Harrypotter (talk) 21:00, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
Student Movement Coordination Committee... is also questionable at best. I am not saying bad things don't happen in Iran, but that site's goal is regime change. They say anything and more than often Iranians have often seen these sites really blow things out of proportion. They were very big in 1999-2002 when alot of new media was emerging to supposedly support Iranian students, but it all died out and was not professionally run.Nokhodi (talk) 21:44, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
Interesting points! I agree SMCC is questionable, but only to the extent that all sources are by their nature questionable. However, as secularists their views are quite distinct from those of MKO. However NPOV is arrived at by focusing on those areas agreed by a broad range of sources. If you have some other sources concerning these events, I think we might warrant starting a specific page, leaving just a summary on this page. What do you think?Harrypotter (talk) 17:06, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Blue kit

According to the exiting contents and reports on Internet, there is no evidence that Iran National Football Team (Team Melli) has ever used blue kit for an official match. The given reference link is merely about raising a "question" asked by the person who posted a suspicious picture in a forum www.persianfootball.com/forums and it states nothing about any historical fact. Given the fact that Forums are not a valid source of citation, and that it gives no referable information, I suggest the kit section to be modified. Moreover, I suggest that no more unofficial tournaments gets included in this sections as, apart from the tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup (and probably previous Olympic Games and previous Asian games), there have been tens of tournaments over years with so many variety of jerseys and kits. Therefore, I think only important and official tournaments should be included. Iranianson (talk) 22:43, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

RidiQLus! Why you reverted the page without discussing the topic here? First of all, you have given only this reference [ http://www.persianfootball.com/forums/showthread.php?109664-Team-Melli-wore-blue] which, as I mentioned above, is NOT a reliable and valid reference. It is merely a QUESTION in a FORUM. Also, there are other problems with your edit too. The kit you are adding into the section is probably the kit for only an UNOFFICIAL tournament. There are so many similar unofficial tournaments over years that Team Melli has participated in which cannot all of them be included in this section. Only official tournaments such as FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup (and probably previous Olympic Games and previous Asian games) are eligible to be mentioned in this section. Why an Iraqi member is keep adding Iran-Iraq rivalry on Iranian national football team? This user is promoting something that does not exist among Iranian fans and supporter. This needs to be Iran not IR Iran

I’ve seen the move discussion that was started by a user who is now banned for being a sockpuppet I think. The article lead should only refer to the Iran team, not IR Iran. Will change. 314WPlay (talk) 15:12, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

Terrorists team

This team known for its support to Sepah Pasdaran terrorism. Why no mention is done in the article? Shame Iran... they shouldn't even be in the international cups. 86.55.207.194 (talk) 07:29, 21 February 2023 (UTC)

Ali Daei Appearances

Hi @Shahin:

According to RSSSF, the source used for the Player Records section, Ali Daei has 148 caps due to Ecuador's FA no longer recognising a match played by their Olympic team. Why have you reverted this edit when it matches information found in the source? Felixsv7 (talk) 07:34, 24 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi, Iran won the Jordan International 2023 tournament last week. On Jordan soccers Wikipedia page, it shows in their honours section that they won gold in 2022 at this tournament. On irans medal page, it should also say iran won gold at this tournament in 2023. Thank you (Redacted) 02:55, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
