comments[edit]

I'm slightly concerned that this article reads more like a hagiography than an encyclopedia entry - Donald Ian Rankin 11:24, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

that's for sure, AND just about the whole thing is one long paean of praise written for something other than wikipedia. Sfahey 13:56, 21 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

While I agree that the tone of the article is excessively promotional, I note that it is more richly textured than, say, the article on his contemporary Lorenz Hart, who was at least as significant a lyricist if not more so.--Tomstoner 15:29, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Someone should find a picture for this page.Brian787 23:21, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Arthur Francis?[edit]

What?! His brother's name was Arthur and his sister's was Francis! Surely he wasn't known by that....

"Arthur Francis" was a pseudonym Ira Gershwin used when he first started writing.JeanColumbia (talk) 17:52, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Children?[edit]

Did Ira have any children. Seeming that he had a wife, he must of had children.Toby Keet 06:22, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He had no children (see the link to the bio of Michael Feinstein).JeanColumbia (talk) 17:53, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gershwin Prize[edit]

There's a separate Wikipedia article on the Gershwin Prize, which is kept up to date with each year's winner, citations, etc.

So, it seems suboptimal to describe the first and second winners here on Ira's page. Both of those sentences/discussion should be removed from this Ira Gershwin article, instead making sure that the Gershwin Prize article is always thorough.

I hate to just "delete" Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder from here -- someone will be upset -- but Burt Bacharach and Carole King are clearly omitted, ... What's the right procedure?

Thanks -- ResearcherQ (talk) 16:50, 20 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I totally sympathise and agree, so I've tactfully removed both names to avoid future fan warring. Gareth E Kegg (talk) 00:31, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well done -- and I did some enhancements to the Gershwin Prize article, so I feel it's up to date. Good teamwork! -- ResearcherQ (talk) 16:53, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
