I have removed the see also link to American Medical Student Association as it is simply not relevant to this article: refer WP:CONTEXT. This article is about interns, not medical students. In the United States interns are not medical students, rather are medical practitioners. I have placed the link in the relevant article, namely Medical education in the United States.

Under the heading transitional and prelim, is the option between internal medicine and surgery? I now feel that my edit was inaccurate. Would it be more appropriate to say that the options are general medicine or surgery? Sjrsimac 02:32, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

POV tag[edit]

This is about tag cleanup. As all of the tags are more than a year old, there is no current discussion relating to them, and there is a great deal of editing done since the tags were placed, they will be removed. This is not a judgement of content. If there is cause to re-tag, then that of course may be done, with the necessary posting of a discussion as to why, and what improvements could be made. Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page[edit]

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. Malaysia[edit]

Every medical graduates, from Malaysian public or private universities will have to apply for temporary registration with the Malaysian Medical Council. Once the council approved of their application, they will be listed as 'Approved for Consideration'. This Approval is required for them to apply for Medical Graduate Officer (Pegawai Perubatan Siswazah) from the government, to be accepted into the government service. If the application has been accepted by the government (include processes of interview, and government servant compulsory course ), then the Council will now register them as Medical Graduate Officer with a Temporary Registration Number, which allows them to serve as house officers (called H.O. for short), working in major government hospitals only (ones with adequate consultants of each specialties/departments). Upon completion of rotations of : 1. Internal medicine, 2. Surgery, 3. Paediatric, 4. Orthopaedic, 5. Obstetric and Gynecology 6. A choice of Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesiology, Psychiatry, Family Medicine for 3 months of each rotation (total of 18 months of housemanship), they will then be registered by the Malaysian Medical Council as Fully Registered. The government service is compulsory for every medical graduate in order to obtain full registration with the Malaysian Medical Council. There are cases which the period of 18 months of housemanship be extended due to incompetency and health reasons, which is under the jurisdiction of the Council. A fully registered doctor (called medical officer, MO) are then free to choose to work in the government sector or the private sector. Consultants in this country, largely, refers to a doctor with completed specialty and subspecialty training and a Master or PhD degree, approved by the Council. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.159.69.160 (talk) 18:25, 15 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The lead should be slightly changed to be more universal[edit]

"A medical intern is a physician in training who has completed medical school and has a medical degree but does not yet have a license to practice medicine unsupervised."

In many countries (at least here in Latin America), doing the internship is a requirement to getting a medical degree rather than a separate period. The lead should probably reflect this better. --181.115.61.74 (talk) 19:48, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
