Ability to access ICB database?[edit]

As part of reformatting articles in Category:Lists of companies by country, take for example List of companies of the United Arab Emirates, I have added a column for the ICB sub-sector. List of companies[edit]

I have got a list compiled by using Euronext (Belgium, France, Ireland, Netherland, Portugal, later perhaps Norway) data, but data can and will be outdated. For example due to a company not willing to invest in, or caring about, an update. Via live.euronext.com/en you may as well query the composition of any main index (BEL20, PX1, and so on), and visit the page of each included company once in a while. It's hard to keep up, internationally with several stock exchanges being involved. Anyway, like so:

https://live.euronext.com/en Name, ISIN, Ticker, Index: type e.g. ISE20 (Ireland) and search Select ISE20, if the pag of the ISE20 index doesn't open automatically Select the tab Characterics Select More Details under Index Composition Select, for example, Total Produce There, select the tab Characteristics (with an URL which can be used directly the next time) You can find the ICB data of Total Produce there

Or visit http://home.uni-one.nl/m1/beurs/sectoren.html once, which perhaps does not qualify as a genuine, legal and/or official source. Nevertheless it displays that the ICB code of Total Produce plc probably is 45201010. The data set certainly isn't complete, for example because of zero trades in a listed company. Ever. And so on. Some ICB codes won't occur at all, like the weird and trendy new ICB code for Cannabis, because there are no such companies listed at any included Euronext stock exchange. You will also need to use 1 or 2 tables with "geen gegevens op" (no data at) in the header.

Data was changed and added by Euronext recently, probably due to the changed ICB codes. ICB codes still can be outdated, like IEX (financial websites) pretending to be a Food Producer or Oranjewoud (heavy construction) still pretending to be writing software like the former listed entity Centric KSI used to do.

ICB codes, perhaps for a table (no date of retrieval available))[edit]

"All ICB sectors are represented on the New York Stock Exchange except Equity Investment Instruments (8980) and Nonequity Investment Instruments (8990)" contains outdated codes. Unfortunately I cannot check easily if such a fact still is true.

Several subsectors aren't represented at the Euronext exchanges.

Set up Wikipedia Category hierarchy that replicates this[edit]

I think it would be better for each company to be placed in one category (ie the lowest level one for the subsector), and for this category to have a parent category (sector), which in turn had a parent category for the supersector and finally the industry.

Examples:

Financials ≫ Insurance ≫ Non-life Insurance ≫ Rensurance
Consumer Discretionary ≫ Consumer Products and Services ≫ Household Goods and Home Construction ≫ Household Furnishings
Consumer Staples ≫ Food, Beverage and Tobacco ≫ Beverages ≫ Brewers
Basic Materials ≫ Basic Resources ≫ Precious Metals and Mining ≫ Gold Mining

This way, using only one category, we could use deep-search tools to categories companies by industry or anything else.
