Yes, better removing not verified information. The references you point here are basically those I found. As there is very little about that place on the web I guess we should wait until some Dauphin Island expert have a look at this article to make it more interesting. --OC 09:38, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't been able to find any useful sources online to back-up the claim that the park has never been explored by archaeologists, nor that it 'predates white man.' The Dauphin Island Foundation and Dauphin Island Bird Sanctuary sites have only smallest bits of info. The National Register of Historic Places information system gives the following information

Indian Mound Park (added 1973 - Site - #73000360)
Also known as Dauphin Island Indian Shell Mound;University of South Alabama
Restricted Address, Dauphin Island
Historic Significance: Information Potential
Area of Significance: Prehistoric
Cultural Affiliation: Woodland, Mississippian
Period of Significance: 1000 AD-999 BC, 1499-1000 AD, 1749-1500 AD
Owner: State
Historic Function: Agriculture/Subsistence
Historic Sub-function: Processing
Current Function: Landscape
Current Sub-function: Underwater

That period of significance might support the park's age, but just to be safe, I'm removing both claims until they can be verified and cited. ×Meegs 12:30, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I added this article because there was some references to that place in wikipedia. I tried to find some information on the web. The couple of lines I wrote came from that search. But as you notice there is not a lot about it. May be we should ask somebody living on Dauphin Island. --OC 13:06, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
