Untitled[edit]

Currently, International Institutes of Info Tech are completely different from the structure of Indian Institutes of Info Tech. So, IIIT-Hyd, IIIT-Bengaluru, IIIT-Pune should be treated as separate entities with no affiliation with the IndianIITs. Same applies to IndraprasthaIIT.

How about reorganizing this page with a better classification?[edit]

I propose having a redirection from acronym IIIT and the page having the following 4 sections after a brief introduction and history of IIITs:

  • Managed by HRD, Govt. of India - (IIIT Allahabad, IIIT Gwalior, Jabalpur, Kanchipuram and Kerala)
  • Managed by State governments - (IIIT Bangalore, Delhi, and Hyderabad)
  • Managed by private bodies - (ISquareIT Pune, ...)
  • For High School students from Andhra Pradesh villages (Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies at Basar, RKValley, Nuzvid)

The number of IIITs is going to increase over time, and I think this classification (or something similar or better) would lead to clarity.

Also, there are 2 key sections required:

  • Entrance Examination / Admission criteria
  • Academic Programs

I guess a table can provide the above information. We can possibly follow the IIT template (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Institutes_of_Technology), but try to avoid sections on rankings, reservations, and anything contentious. Let the individual pages for these IIITs have other detailed information.

If you think an edit is controversial you can discuss it in a talk page like you just did. My point was that the best approach is to be bold and edit. If someone doesn't like it they will revert and ask for clarifications.
While we are discussing, what the article really needs much more than anything you suggested are sources on what consists of an IIIT. You seem to include in your list some International Institutes of Informational Technology for which the membership isn't clear, and they were removed from the article. That's true - and therefore it's confusing for many parents during the time of admissions. The Indian/International differentiation itself is controversial. As far as I know, they are named 'Indian' if they are created via an act of parliament (and managed by HRD), while others are either created by an act of respective state governments, or private bodies. Let the people who know about it, edit this information, but may be having information about programs and admission process would be really useful. IIIT-Hyderabad is the only International Institute, and the 20 new ones proposed in 2011 are going to be built along its lines. IIIT-H had started out in 1998 as Indian Institute, but in 2001 it was granted deemed university status and hence changed its name to International Institute. It has no connection whatsoever with any other IIITs, though LMNIIT, Jaipur is also known to follow its model.Kshitijagrwl (talk) 19:29, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Membership[edit]

It is easy to confuse the Indian Institutes of Information Technology with some International Institutes of Information Technology. However, there is one official source which settles it. IIIT Kerela[edit]

The "about us" page in IIIT Kerela's website states "Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K) is a non-profit making autonomous institution registered under Section 8 (old Section 25) Companies Act 2013 and the management of the Institute is vested with Board of Directors comprising eminent industrialists, academicians and senior Government officials appointed by the Government of Kerala." Hence It has industry parteners and government officials in its management. Later in the page in the "Origin" section it states "In order to develop manpower for different areas of the knowledge economy, education and training of information technology is a core prerequisite. The MHRD department of Central Government has decided to start IIITs in different states." Implying that it is setup on MHRD's recommendation. Therfore, I think it should be mentioned in the "List of IIITs" subsection "Setup on Public Private Partnership by MHRD, respective State Governments and Industry Partners." --Sumitsinha lko (talk) 18:01, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

IIIT Hyderabad[edit]

IIIT-H is one of the more famous IIITs. Why is it not included?

This is a common mistake. Though using the same abbreviation, International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad is not an Indian Institutes of Information Technology and neither is Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi. --Muhandes (talk) 13:35, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
