A large portion of the text below needs significant re-writing to make it more 'encyclopediac'. Presently, it is descriptive of various projects and MoUs of the institute and has NO references.

Overseas institutions increasingly recognize IIHMR as an organization sharing with them areas of interest in the fields of health management and research. The Johns Hopkins University, School of Hygiene and Public Health, Baltimore, USA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIHMR to collaborate in joint research, training and educational activities. The specific objectives of the MoU are to facilitate academic exchange between the faculty and research workers of both the organizations; to facilitate students exchange in the graduate and postgraduate programmes for academic courses; and to facilitate collaborative work on research and policy. Similarly, there is also an ongoing collaboration with the New Jersey Institute of Technology based on similar objectives and a possibility of offering an MBA degree in Management of Technology.

The collaboration is aimed to establish a quality network for rational drug management (Qu4RaD) at the level of primary health care (PHC). The network is based on advanced information technology (IT) and has been set up through a multidisciplinary approach by four organisations in Belgium, Germany, India and the Philippines. The target groups are providers and purchasers of PHC in these four countries involved in quality improvement activities in rational drug management.

The Institute is collaborating with Wake Forest University in developing a pilot project on tobacco research initiatives in India. The pilot study aims at developing social and culture specific information on patterns of use of tobacco and related behaviour. The aim is to develop a project for behaviour interventions for reduction in tobacco use and prevention of related ill health.

The South East Asia Public Health Education Institution Network (SEAPHEIN) has been created by the WHO South East Asia Regional Office to promote collaboration and sharing of information and knowledge among the member countries in the region to strengthen public health education and training. The Institute is an active partner of the network and has signed agreements for collaboration with Mahidol University, Thailand; University of Padjajaran, Indonesia; and Gadjah Madha University, Indonesia.

The Institute has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Mahidol University, Thailand, Padjadjaran University, Indonesia and Gadjha Madha University, Indonesia for a period of four years and with Hasanuddin University, Indonesia for three years to jointly develop the following academic and educational activities:

Technical cooperation and collaboration

Cooperation in research projects

IbnSina, Kabul, Afghanistan

The Institute has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IbnSina, Kabul to establish and strengthen the capacity of the NGOs and the employees of the Government of Afghanistan. The Institute provides training in general management, such as Health Sector Reforms, Hospital Management Courses, Strategic Leadership and Management for Reproductive Health Programmes, Community Mobilization for Health Care Delivery, Financing Health Care in Developing Countries, Quality assurance in Health Care, Communication for Behavioural Change in Health Care, Intervention Design for HIV/AIDS, Emergency Preparedness, Policy Formulation, Analysis and Implementation.

BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, Nepal

The Institute is collaborating with the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, Nepal to enhance academic and educational programs for the benefit of both the institutes in the following areas:

Advice and consultancy on structural, academic, policy and procedural matters related to the establishment of a new School of Public Health

Partnership to support the development of School of Public Health

Support in curriculum development in public health.

Exchange of faculty and training of faculty and staff in public health

Participation and support in teaching training activities.

Student exchange

Collaboration in research activities

Collaboration in service and public health policy activities

Collaboration in any other educational activities agreed upon by both the parties

Saudi German Hospitals Group, Saudi Arabia

IIHMR has signed an MoU with the Saudi German Hospitals Group, Jeddah to set up the Institute of Health Management Research as a joint venture to promote health management research with a focus on health policy and programmes, capacity building through management development programmes, and to initiate a postgraduate programme in health and hospital management. The Institute will cater to Middle East countries in Asia and East African countries.

Indira Gandhi National Open University

IIHMR has a collaborative arrangement with Indira Gandhi National Open University for its distance learning programme on hospital management. The Institute is a study centre for the contact programmes for the participants
