Talk:Impact investing

The article says Impact investing is differentiated from Socially responsible investing in that an investor will proactively seek investments that generate both financial as well as specific social and/or environmental returns. But the first sentence of the Socially responsible investing article says Socially responsible investing describes an investment strategy which seeks to maximize both financial return and social good. So where is the difference ? Could it be made more explicit (if there is any) ?

Response to recent overhaul[edit]

Kitode has started on some much-needed overhauling of this article. I've made a few changes:

  1. I combined the "definition" and "in the media" sections and moved them to the lead of the article. Leads are where this "definition" kind of material generally go, and I think the discussion which was moved to the end needs to be right up front (especially the relation to socially responsible investing, since by some accounts impact investing is a subset of that and the competing terms are confusing).
  2. I removed the references to "negative externalities" in "history". That technical concept does not seem necessary to understand socially responsible investing or impact investing. I also cleaned up the history a bit and linked to the similar, and much more in-depth discussion of the history of socially responsible investing.
  3. I de-capitalized wikilinks when they were being used in sentences, per Wikipedia style.

External link farm[edit]

I have removed the in-page external links from this article that contributed to the article's status as a promotional tool. The article really needs an expert eye to look over it.--Soulparadox (talk) 06:41, 15 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I will try to edit this over the next few months as it's mainly just a collection of links, you're right - anyone else who is around and interested in ethical finance, please do chip in! --EthicalFinance (talk) 14:02pm 20 August 2014 (UTC)

Social Impact investing[edit]

Would it be worth it creating a seperate article for the above given topic? WikiEditCrunch (talk) 17:14, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Do reliable, independent sources clearly explain how this concept is different from both impact investing and socially responsible investing? If not, this is unlikely to be a helpful fork and will only add confusion. Wikipedia already has a problem with ambiguously defined business jargon, so this should be carefully sourced.
